Sabayon is an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar, a sweet liquor (usually Marsala wine), and sometimes cream or whole eggs. It is a very light custard, which has been whipped to incorporate a large amount of air
SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 miniEdition, commonly called the "mini", is the CD release of the latest SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 DVD. The creation of this special version, has been made with an automatic script that shrinks down the whole chroot jail by removing every duplicated, useless or server-oriented package. The multimedia features of these special editions are kept intact. So, enjoy that beautiful piece of software on a single CD!

Distribution updates 3.4:
  • Improved OpenGL configuration reliability
  • NVIDIA Drivers updated to 100.14.19
  • Compiz Fusion stability fixes (will be soon enabled by default on the supported hardware)
  • Boot time 15% faster

The only thing i dont like about Sabayon is the frequency with which they keep coming up with newer versions without fixing the old bugs...they expect ppl to dnload the 4.5+ gb images again n again n then find the same bugs carried forward..??I had dnloaded the 3.4a about a month ago...now they are on to 3.4F thru 3.4E.. And updating thru the portage doesnt work all the time, infact it can completely screw it up if u dont know what u are doing...

have completed the download of sabayon linux mini edition 3.4e (700mb)..

and the sabayon linux 3.4f (4.5GB) will be over by tomorrow morning..

so was thinking which one to go with..

is it like mini edition takes less space ..and the full 4.5 gb edition takes lots of HDD space after installation ??

also ..which one of the two will play all the videos,mp3's, out of the box..and have the codecs..everything pre installed ?

I think all versions have codecs installed by default. Which link did u use to get the dvd ?, none of the http mirrors were working yesterday.

Have installed the mini already, is pretty good.

On the other thing you asked, the DVD will have a wider selection off apps to install (compile), I think the base install is the same.

Yes, the mini edition definitely takes less space, hence the name..

If u do a complete install with the 4.5 gb dvd version, then it'll take close to 8 gb of ur hdd space...but if u only install the base system and choose only the packages tht u want, then it'll take up a lot less space.. So its wise to choose only those packages tht u r going to use, instead of filling up ur hdd unnecessarily with stuff tht u wud never use..;)

Both the mini edition and the dvd version come preinstalled with all the codecs for playing mp3s and movies(dvds, mpgs, divx etc.) So it wud be good, if u try out the mini edition and then if u like it, get the full version!
