Storage Solutions Same old story, 1TB External advice needed

I am about to purchase a 1TB HDD, and use it as an external dump for my HD and Games and other collections. Budget (sub 6k). I really want something with an eSATA option so that i don't have to wait for ages for data transfer.

Now my options are as follows:

  1. Buy an internal 1TB HDD and club it with a eSATA casing. The HDD will be around 5200-5300 for seagate.
  2. Buy an external. Verbatim is around 5600 or so and Seagate around 5800-5900 via eBay. But no eSATA here.

now which one of the above would be the best buy ? Also are there good quality eSATA casings available locally, something along the lines of the CM X-Craft cases ? How much would they cost ?

afaik xcraft costs about 1.5-2k. might be wrong.

theres a deal for a maxtor 1tb on ebay for 5.8k odd. with the 15% coupon you can get it for 5k.

hmm....now planning on the freeagent, will be around 5.8 after the coupon (which afaik has a maximum limit of 500Rs only right ?)

How abt the Vantec NexStar dock/Sunbeam dock for like 1.9~2k and add a WD Greenpower 10EACS 1TB drive for 5.3k? Ok that exceeds the budget lol. :p

IINM the WD MyBook Home 1TB costs a li'l less than 6k. Has the eSata port, 2 Firewire and a usb port.

The coolermaster xcraft casings are about 1400 bucks and not easily available.. Like Gunman said you can go for a HDD dock (I'm sure you must be having mulitple HDDs) for around 2K, but it will overshoot your budget. 1TB external HDDs with eSATA are around 6.5K AFAIK, which would still be beyond your budget.. So you need to compromise somewhere.. either increase the budget by around a couple Ks and get one of the many choices available, or sacrifice eSATA connectivity.. :p

i think your getting the maxtor from ebay is the best deal. its cheap and has 5 yr warranty.

however if you really need e-sata, then you should be looking to get a hard disk + esata casing. but will be more expensive.

even i haev the maxtor its 3 years :p , anyways i really have not seen any wd esata for 6k any were , were is it selling for that price i will change my maxtor and take those then :hap2:

Cooler Master esata casing listed at deltapage for 1450

"Coler Mstr ESATA 1450"

So if you manage to get a WD 1 TB green series for about 5200, u get ur esata external hdd for less than 6700..
