Same old story

Hi Guys,

I know my mobo and RAM are not the best for oc'ing. Far from it actually. But I did not buy a Neo2 plat as the XP 120 does not fit on that mobo.

So, anyway, this is the final status..... after all my spending(dad's rather).

AMD 64 3200+ winnie
Asus A8V DEluxe
Thermalright XP-120
Kingston Value RAM

I have touched 2.5GHz with stock cooler and XP120. At this point, Prime 95 does not run for more than 2 mins at the best. Temp is well under control. It is only in 45deg C.

So........ here goes the same old question.....what else can I do to increase my oc??

I have oc'ed at 1:2(in A8v it is DDR400) and at 1:1(DDR200). Which is better and more stable??? And which is better for overall better performance???REduce the clock speed slightly but run RAM at DDR400???? Or DDR200 and higher clock speeds???

And I want to download Sisoft Sandra. Where do I get it??? You cansend me a PM if yo do not want to post on the forums.

Oh..... BTW,

Voltage is at 1.584/1.6(according to Asus PC PRObe) and 1.568/1.584 (according to CPU Z 1.28.1). Which is more accurate???

Temp at idle is around 41-42. Is that low enough??? For an XP 120. I installed it today itself. So, will the temp get lower over time???? I am using a Themaltake Thunderbird LED fan. 120mm obviously. The Airflow is 78 CFM. And I see in tests of these HSFs that they run the fans at different voltages. How do I do that??? How do I know that my fan is running at 12V and not at 6v?? In Asus PC Probe, my fan speed is around 2000RPM which is the rated speed for this particular fan.

And peak temp has not crossed 49degc(for 2.4GHz under Prime95). 48 for 2.5GHz but when gaming as Prime 95 does not run for a long time.

I know I am asking some stupid questions to all you experts but I will be highly obliged if you all could help me out here. I am an amateur Oc enthusiast and would greatly welcome some advice from the gods of oc'ing.... Darky, Bottle, Masky, and anybody else whom I have forgotten.

make sure the ram runs at its highest speed.. i suggest reducing the vcore.. my ocs on a8v were all with the vcore between 1.4 and 1.5

Well ...am not a huge OC'er.....like the above mentioned guys :cool2:
but the best way to OC is

1. Changing HTT link speed by adjusting the multiplier, keeping everything else constant
2. Changing the LDT bus speed, using no memory divider, while keeping the total CPU clock constant by adjusting the CPU multiplier
3. Changing the LDT bus speed, while keeping the memory speed as close to 200 MHz as possible by adjusting the memory divider
4. Changing the LDT bus speed, keeping the CPU multiplier at 9x and the memory divider at 1:1 (regular overclocking)
well this helped me for my 3000+ winnie....u hav a 3200+ so 1 more multiplier...

the above was posted by Bottle :hap2: .......nd has been made a sticky in the CPU/MOBO section here.....check tht out....

i think that was just a comparison of different overclocking techniques

conclusion sums it up

Among other knowledge extracted from this crusade, prevalent is the fact that memory bandwidth on this architecture is highly dependant on CPU clock speed, and that raising the HT bus or memory speed alone results in almost no performance gain. Users will see a considerable gain in performance by raising the LDT bus speed, keeping the CPU multiplier at its maximum, and making use of a memory divider if their memory is incapable of running at the new speed. The rule of thumb is memory bus efficiency is directly related to the CPU clock speed.

To summarize, memory dividers are a perfectly acceptable way of maximizing system performance, as CPU clock is the factor around which everything revolves, HT link speed is not of great importance (even 600 MHz ought to be enough for 99% of users), and the absolute best way to squeeze performance out of your K8 system is to avoid the use of a memory divider, though that requires high-end memory.

It helped me nevrtheless on getting started with ddr266.....

nd i knew about tht......
thts why just posted to let him know how he cud go further on his OC'ing

OOPS!!!

Sorry for my previous post. It was an error.

Anyway, I am posting my latest oc's here. I got 5627 in 3D MARK 05. And rest you can see. Please continue giving me advice. And what abt my other scores???? The Mem bandwidth. Is it ok??? LOW??? Please do tell.

And can you please tell me abt the other CPU stability tests. POrime 95 in one of them but I want to try out others. I think that my system is stable coz' I can run it at this speed playing all heavu games like DOOM3, HL2, NFS UG2, CS, etc...... for hours but 1 minute of Prime 95 and it stops.

So, please continue to give me advise....

Thanks for the help so far.
