Samsing I8000 Omnia 2 Upgrade

Dear Friends,

I recently bought Samsung GT-i8000 Omnia2. It came with windows mobile 6.1 installed and it is written on the box that upgradable to windows mobile 6.5. So can some one explain me step by step about how to upgrade to winmo 6.5? Also if is there any latest firmware available for it? If yes, then how to upgrade it?

AFAIK, Win mobile 6.5 is not yet made available for OmniaII. When available, upgrade can be done via Samsung New PC studio which comes on the cd.
 
As I said, check for upgrade via Samsung New pc studio. Only some regions have the update available currently, not all.

Ok. I m having some problems with my phone n i m listing here. Hope if some one can help me.

1). I am using airtel gprs(mobile office) to browse net on mobile. On my previous sony handset, i was able to connect net to pc with the help of sony pc suite. But in samsung pc studio, i dont understand how i can connect net on my pc through mobile. There isnt any option in PC Studio for net connection. And in activesync, one connection is shown in notification area(bottom right side of pc) but no site is working. If someone can guide me step by step, about the settings for net to work on pc, then it will be very helpful.

2). In my contact list, i m having different mobile nos for a single contact. ie mobile no, work no, home no. Now while i forward any message, i m only able to select only mobile no of any contact. Suppose i want to send message to its work no, i am not able to select it bcoz only one number is displayed against contact name. How to select another number?

3). Camera is very good during daytime, i m not satisfied with night shots. night shots are little bit greenish type. I know there are some setting needed to be changed. Wat r iso setting. There are different iso settings like iso50, iso100, iso400 etc. Wat does it do? Some one can give me suggestion for setting for taking photoes in night mode.

4). I have installed some apps, but how to remove them if i want to? I cant find any shortcuts like add or remove programs. Also in specification, it has been written that phone has digital compass. I can access i by dialing *#0*#, which will bring lcdtest screen n in that digital compass is there. But cant find any shortcut for that.

5). Opera mobile browser came with mobile is nice but it is very sensitive while scrolling. I downloaded opera mobile 10 beta2 n found it very good but it also having problem like i cant minimise it while i want to switch another application n it automatically closes sometimes. Someone can suggest some good browser.

6). Do I required to install any anti virus? If yes, pls suggest some good antiviruses which r free.

1. ActiveSync is used to keep information up-to-date on both your device and your PC. If you make a change in one place, the next time you synchronize, the change is automatically made to the corresponding information on the other computer.

To connect to the internet using your mobile click on 'Widgets' at the bottom left of pc studio screen. Select 'Internet Connector' and continue.

2. When you create a contact in phonebook, the mobile no. gets set as the text message no. too. If while forwarding a text you want to use another number then just enter it manually.

3. Cant advise you on this.

4. Go to Productivity>Settings>Memory settings. Choose Main Storage. You will see a list of all installed programs. Press the delete button of those that you want to uninstall. There is no shortcut for digital compass. It can be accessed only via *#0*#

5. I use the default browser. Try using NetFront browser ACCESS

6. I dont use any anti-virus.

As for the 6.5 upgrade, u can have it, but it may be at the expense of warranty, although if you face a hardware problem, i think they'll go ahead and sort it out. If its a software problem, u'll have to deal with it. But there isnt any option like Widgets on pc studio screen. Can you explain with the help of screenshot?

But you cannot remember all mobile nos of every contacts.

Ok. One more question. I have downloaded some files on my pc, when i tried to copy it to my mobile using usb datacable (phone is in mass storage mode), some file cannot be copied giving error, 'cannot copy the file: path is too long.' I m trying to copy them to my storage on moble n it has still abt 5 gb space free.

About the file copy error: I haven't experienced anything like this. Maybe the file name is too long. Try copying after shortening the filename.
 
But after connecting my cell, that option is still disabled.

I think this error is the cause of I not being able to connect.

Pls tell me how to connect cell step by step or if some setting i have to change in the phone of in the pc, then also explain me.

Sorry if u r finding my problem very stupid but i m very noob to mobile world.

Ok, from the error message it seems that you dont have a email program installed. Windows 7 doesnt bundle one. So download Windows Live Mail (legally free) and then try again. Otherwise install Outlook (part of MS Office) and then try.

Though why an email program is needed to connect to the internet, I have no idea.

Also, download the newer version of pc studio which is 1.4.0.IK.1

And a suggestion: Crop the screenshots to show only the relevant parts so that they load faster.
 
Ok Paraman,

I have installed Office 2007 (in which outlook 2007 is there) but still the Internet Connector icon is disabled. I dont know now what is the problem?

In your system, is that icon enabled? If yes, Can u do some research on ur side how it is enabled in ur system? Wat settings to be changed?

Do i need to configure outlook? I tried but couldnt understand anythink.
 
No, the icon is disabled in my system too. I dont know why. I never need to use it so didnt bother looking at it. You try posting this problem in one of the forums that I have mentioned in my earlier post. Maybe they will be able to resolve this issue. Good luck!

I have already posted my problem on modaco yesterday and on samsung-omnia 3 days before but still there isnt any response from either site.

One thing I must say that on this forum, response is very fast. I liked it very much. And hoping that someone else has any solution on this forum. Bcoz on other forum, it is taking too much time.

Is there any third party application that can count my sent message and reset counter at will? As I want to know that if I have exceed my monthly msg limit or not?
 
Install Resco Contact Manager and you will be able to keep SMS count. As for the bluetooth issue, even I havent found a way to do it. Only one file at a time can be sent from the File Manager.
