Samsung and Reliance scamming India?

Everything is not a "scam". How is this a scam? This is a "tax evasion/crime".

Btw I instantly sympathize with both Reliance and Samsung. Indian Import classifications are one of the most harebrained enigma in the entire galaxy. Everyone who has imported anything would be somehow unintentionally flouting some rules. Prosecution depends on how much can be shaken off from the entity... mafia style.

This Russian roulette of delayed tax claims (aptly called "tax terrorism") is one of the most powerful impediments to FDI esp in manufacturing and hardware. A proud achievement of the brainless bureaucracy and spineless politicians.

Suddenly an entire year of your company's profits is being claimed by the tax dept as tax claims!!! China's is fking laughing at us but that is not something new...

the government is itself scamming its people with high tax. the complexity of Indian imports, taxes on it is huge. if they are giving low taxes, it is helping the conusmers. no one have rights to charge taxes for nothing.

everything not a "scam" is correct, same gov scamming it's people is correct too. we end up paying 40-50% taxes for nothing. no healthcare, priority pass, insurance, not a single thing i avail from government services. the taxes i pay end up in leaders pocket or given as freebies.

I understand your sentiment but the government is not scamming its people. Some politicians, bureaucrats, judges etc do scams but the govt wants to fund its welfare schemes and subsidies that is far bigger than all individual scams put together... several times over.

So, several groups of entitled voters are scamming the tax payers and other productive voters. In addition to that, those sections of voters are voting for perpetual expansion of welfare schemes and entitlements (instead of rewarding infra or capex spend or a fiscally conservative govt) without any end date or evaluation metrics of outcomes... in the name of various flavours of identity politics.

This naturally incentivises scammers and swindlers who can just "bribe" the voters.

there is no "SOME" but "ALL. the words are not a sentiment but a reality. Why government have to give freebies at first place instead of giving jobs? freebies should be for people with disability, aged one and can't work.

While it's true that some politicians and officials engage in corruption, the larger issue lies in the ineffective use of tax revenues for welfare. Expanding entitlements without proper evaluation or a focus on infrastructure only fuels the cycle of dependence and corruption. In my humble opinion a more FISCALLY responsible approach is needed to ensure that resources benefit the productive sectors of society.
