Samsung announced Ativ Q, new notebook-tablet hybrid last week during the press event in London.

The Ativ Q can run both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean OS, so you can use it either as a Tablet or Notebook. The Android OS also uses the same Core i5 processor so performance is expected to be great in both OS. Switching between the two OS doesn't need a restart.

In the slate mode , you can just lift up the display and lock it above the keyboard to use it with the touchscreen. It can also be folded back completely to use it as a tablet, or you can adjust the screen in floating position in which the lower body acts like a stand. It includes Samsung S-pen as well for making notes.

It boasts a qHD+ display ( 3200x1800 resolution , 275ppi ) which is currently world's highest resolution on a 13.3 inches display.

The Ativ Q will launch sometime in this year but exact availability date or price has not been announced yet.

The Ativ Q will unfortunately be priced over Rs. 80,000 considering the other similar tablets and ultrabooks are also priced in that range.

While I would not want to debate whether it deserves to be priced that high, it clearly looks like a better device than Asus Transformers, Dell XPS12, Lenovo Yoga or even Macbooks in terms of hardware and usability.

If only it could be had for 50K-60K (wishful thinking).

This is something I have been hoping for since a long time. Yes, it will be priced high and we cannot do anything about it, but yes, it is many times better than any other ultra book, and maybe, the price can be justified. A good touch based ultra book and a powerful tablet would easily set us back by 90k or so.

But, though I like progress in technology, I personally feel that resolution would do more harm than good :(

Somehow I am not able to digest a 'tablet' of 13". There is Ative 9 Lite from Samsung which is lower on specs but great on portability. I that launches here for 35K around it will be a great deal.

The PPI is much, much lower than a midrange phone with a 4.5" screen and 1280x720 resolution, and the viewing distance in tablet mode is about the same - so it will be grainier in comparison.

I don't think we have too much resolution in tablet displays - not yet, anyway.

Of course :) but I'm personally content with with screens as the processors are unable to keep up with the resolutions both in arm tablets and also in these ultra books without gpus.
