I got myself a Samsung Freeform3 from the US. The phone has Metro PCS as its operator (Samsung R380 Freeform III - Full phone specifications)

This is a CDMA phone based of the following frequencies(taken from GSMarena)

GENERAL 2G Network CDMA 800 / 1900

AWS 1700 / 2100

Announced 2011, July

Status Available. Released 2011, July

My questions are:-

[1] Do I have to unlock it to use it with Indian CDMA operators?

[2] If it needs to be unlocked how much will it cost me and where can I get it unlocked?

[3] Will this phone work properly if I want to use it with a Reliance/Tata CDMA prepaid connection?

[4] Can anyone post their experiences using a Reliance/Tata CDMA connection?

[5]Can anyone post prepaid tariffs for Reliance/Tata CDMA connections?

Some pictures of the phone :-

There is no SIM card slot in the phone.

1) Yes, you do have to unlock it to use with Reliance or Tata CDMA connection. First you unlock the phone and then register the phone with Reliance or Tata for service.

2) I do not know where and how much it cost to unlock the phone. So could not answer this questions :(

3) If it is succefully unlocked and registered with Tata or Reliance. Then yes, it should work properly with Tata or Reliance CDMA connection.

4) I believe Reliance is better IMHO.

5) Reliance: Reliance Prepaid Mobile Recharge Vouchers & Reliance Mobile Recharge Information, Tata: Prepaid Plans from Tata Indicom providing a range of prepaid plans for you (Please remember to choose location on top to see the fare in detais)

Hope this helps.
