It seems that Sammy is having some problems with their Exynos 5 Quad and Octa chipsets for the Galaxy S IV and Galaxy Note III respectively, and is considering other alternatives. That's right, there's a possibility that this year's flagship smartphones from Samsung come with a Qualcomm powered Snapdragon chipset.
Snapdragon 600 on the Galaxy S IV
Samsung might be using the Snapdragon 600 chipset on their next generation Galaxy S IV, and that isn't entirely a bad thing. Having seen the prowess of the Snapdragon 600 chipset in the recently announced HTC One flagship, it seems that Samsung isn't exactly giving up a lot by not going with their Exynos 5 quad. Which brings us back to why Samsung might have taken such a decision. Simply, the Exynos 5 chipset is simply not ready! Either for mass production or it's producing too much heat (ARM Cortex 15). So we might end up with a Galaxy S IV clocked between 1.7 GHz to 1.9 GHz. This will be really interesting as if this rumor turns out to be true, we will be seeing the first Samsung flagship not bearing an Exynos chipset since the first Samsung Galaxy S/Google Nexus S.
That being said, the Galaxy Note III might end up with a Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked as high as 2.3 GHz, along with the new Adreno 330 GPU. Now that would be something right? Well, day dreaming aside, the fact is that Samsung is indeed considering a Snapdragon!
"We believe Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has slipped and the Galaxy S3 has been in production a quarter longer than expected. We believe the S4 is being delayed primarily due to power issues with the company’s eight-core Exynos Octa […] we believe the company is likely to shift more to external sources. We believe QCOM will pick up more of Samsung’s S4 business."
