Samsung India advertising one thing & selling lower spec phone misleading the consumers.

I am yet to hear from them an explanation.

Dear Sir,

I bought a phone GT-I9003/M4 (GT-I9003MKDINU) from Telecare network, lajpat nagar- delhi

The specification on the box & samsung website both states it has internal memory of 4gb, see link here.

Samsung Galaxy S Lcd 4gb - Specification - Samsung Mobile India

Where as I only see 2gb of internal memory both on phone & when I connect to kies see attached screen shot.

[attachment=7417:13473.attach]

Why have I been misled with wrong specification?

I want a 4gb model as per mentioned on the box.

I have lodged the complaint on the helpline no. 30308282 after 20mins of holding the line service representative dont know much about this new model as per them this should have 16gb internal memory to which I am surprised that they have no clue about the new model. They told me that they will get back to me later with more info.

my complaint no given to me is

8424074795.

Kindly reply back as to what should I do to replace the phone & get a 4gb model?

After 1 hour i got a call from samsung cc saying that this phone is not yet launched India hence we cannot support it please contact the dealer you have bought it from.

What will the dealer do??? he didnt make the internal memory, he gave me a sealed pack phone which he opened for me to have the demo.

Mate,

Samsung Didn't Fleece you in any manner ! as per the screen shot posted by you, i can clearly see 1.89 Gb of usable memory & rest of the memory reserved for Apps.

so that makes it approx 4Gb, thus steer clear of the thought of being fleeced and enjoy your purchase..:hap2: & if possible share your thoughts on the phone & its feature, which shall help all other buyers like me who are on the Brink of Buying the same..

Good Luck

the 1.89GB is with a micro SD card you input or the internal SD ?

do you have any SD input in the card?

if not then it is correct.

part of that 4GB is already allocated to the system.

I hope that was the case, it took me over 16 hrs to confirm this.

1.89gb is my external 2gb sd card if I remove it all I see is 1.51gb of which 21mb is apps installed.

Are you saying that its indeed 4gb & phone firmware+apps are eating up over 2.4gb space so 1.51 is left?

I have checked both with kies as well as within the phone, Am I wrongly reading something?

Here is another proof from windows explorer

[attachment=7426:13483.attach]

Could it be there is a hidden/locked partition to which I cant access & that's consuming the space?

Go to

settings> SD card and Phone storage and tell

External SD

Internal SD

Internal Phone Storage

on older SGS i9000 based devices, 2GB was designated as Internal Phone storage and 14GB was available as Internal SD for users.

If Internal Phone Storage is 2GB then it is correct.

Internal Phone Storage would anyways be not mounted on pc.

OP, just catch screen shot of Phone Specification from Samsung site, send both (samsung phone specs over their site & actual phone specs screen-shot) to samsung global site contact & see ....

Why didn't you ask the CC that what the dealer has to do here, he is seller & not Manufacturer.

HTH

I removed the external sd card as of now.

settings> SD card and Phone storage shows the following

Internal SD card

total space 1.52gb

available space 1.44gb

then in another tab below it shows

internal phone storage

available space 1.80gb

[attachment=7427:13484.attach]
Now this shows Internal memory as 1.51gb

If I add up
total space 1.52gb
available space 1.44gb

then its 2.96gb still missing 1.04gb to make it 4gb

:huh: Completely confused whats the issue.

total 4GB ROM

512MB is reserved by System for itself

around 2GB is reserved for Apps and Data Storage

The rest that is available to you as 'Internal SD' which ~1.5GB

The calculations are in Metric terms. 1kB = 1000B as per that and not 1024B

This conversion happens 3 times, i.e. B to kB, kB to mB, mB to gB

total conversion rate 1000^3/1024^3 = 0.9313

i.e 0.93GB actual for 1GB advertised

~3.725GB for your 4GB ROM

512MB for ROM.. i.e ~0.465gB in computing terms

0.465 + 1.52 + 1.80 = 3.785gB

be happy, you are getting 0.06gB extra !!

@OP -yupps.. nothing is wrong with your phone and you were not mislead... the total storage = internal storage + internal SD card storage + the amount of memory that is reserved for system, apps and other stuff..

Even I'm a galaxy S user.. and the same is there in my phone.. the total 8GB is divided into internal phone storage and internal SD card.

Thanks to all of you I put this issue at rest.

now suggest me a 8/16gb sd card should be fast enough while read & write so I can carry my data along with me.

Is it better to install aaps on internal sd card or the external sd?

So you guys mean to say that the advertised internal memory includes the slot reserved for SD card?
Or am I getting it wrong?

Like for example, GSMArena shows this for Atrix:
Internal - 16 GB storage, 1 GB RAM
Card slot - microSD, up to 32GB

So how does it fit here?

Noob Alert! :ashamed:

your internal sd card has already a partition (internal phone storage) and that is more than enough for apps.

as for sd, if you will be transferring data frequently then get a faster one, else class II (cheapest) is good enough for accessing and watching movies.
or if you have a dslr which shoots in RAW and if you plan to use same storage in cam while needed, then it would make sense spending on faster memory. for general usage in phones, it would be there just for the kicks of spending on faster memory most of the times.

Card slot is just a that, a slot where you can put a memory card in. The type of card which can go in is microSD and max size supported is 32GB.

Internal memory is flash memory which is already present in the phone. So 16GB would mean there is 16GB available apart from whatever you put in the microSD slot.

However, not all 16GB can be used by the users. Some amount, depending upon manufacturer will be used by the system and remaining available for the user.

@Ranjan, get a class 4 Verbatim card from one of our dealers here. 8GB is around 600 IIRC. Class 6 microSD cards are elusive and expensive to find.

Dont you think Galaxy S at 21k is a better deal than this at 19.5k??
21k is just the price on the thread title. :P

actual pricing is so far below that for most of the buyer in that thread. :)

but anyways, the warranty placebo really works, no matter whether you keep your fone for that far or not!! :|

I could not find galaxy s available anymore in the market else I would have opted for it since it has 16gb +Super amoled screen.

the price I remember was 25+ last when I asked in dec 2010

Yeah and because of that Super AMOLED only, Galaxy S seems to have disappeared and replaced in the form of GT-I9003 with SLCD and little changes.
I guess, Samsung needs those SAMOLEDs for SGS 2.
