Samsung LCD TV - good choice?

Some ppl earlier were recommending plasma, some fellow told me plasmas develop problems after a bit. So you don't see them everywhere.

Is that BS, so they can sell more LCDs which are cheaper and therefore more likely to get sold ?

LCDs are cheaper in terms of energy consumption, but i don't think that matters asuming you don't watch all day long :)

A good picture is all that matters really IMO.

^^^ hey buddy.. rather than asking questions here, i would advice you visit a superstore which has both plasma's and lcd's hung up side by side. Then do a comparison. Also while comparing remmember to look at the screen from all angles and distances and also look at standard def feed or tata sky feed (because tats what you will watch 80% of the time). You would for sure notice the difference then,

and as for plasma's developing problems it was a prob with first-second gen panels.. as a matter of fact im using a hitachi plasma for the past two years and it has not given any problems yet.

Ahh see i could do that, but then they could setup stuff to make whatever look better.

Hence my question here, i have no clue which gen your hitachi even is.

I'm off the opinion that for picture quality Plasma is the better choice, now thats just watching live or DVD.

Once you throw games in there, i'm not sure anymore.

Any TV has to at least support 720p as i suppose that's what we will get here, eventually, marketed as HD, forget the real 1080p stuff.

well the performance advantage of plasmas is getting smaller by the year.the main advantage plasmas use to have was the contrast and blacks level, now that gap is small ,like for instance sony W series makes a measured contrast around 2500:1. the plasmas like new panasonic models have almost the same amount of contrast or just a fraction more, the lcds from sony and samsung have definitely surpassed the contrast and black levels produced by plasma of 2007.this will change once lcds with LED backlight are launched and they will without doubt surpass the contrast levels produced by the best of plasma like pioneer kuro which is around 3600:1.

So you're saying LCD's will dominate in the future ?

..or do plasmas have an ace (still).

well in the near future yes lcds have already supassed sales of plasma, but they will be obsolete once OLED screens starts mass production around 2012 .
OLED screen have no ghosting at all.there contrast exceed every other display type, they produce black level of 0.0:ohyeah: and they consume about 70% less power then the best of flat panels displays.

Ahh, you said sales, thats a skewed figure in India if LCDs are cheaper.

I was referring to picture quality, yes its subjective but i think one tech is better (how long for is in question).

Yes, i've heard of OLEDs, they last much longer and consume even less energy, but 4yrs ...aiiii

well yes picture quality too ,he he i knew u were going to ask this question.

well about OLED they still have some issues like their life then can last around 20000 hrs compared to 60000hrs for the lcds.but most of the tv have a life of 10yrs,i used to replace my tv every 9 to 10yrs.
and i have been using lcds for 1yr and 1 month and so far it has ran 1522hrs so for 10 yrs it like 15000hrs.
