Samsung Electronics Monday hinted that its next target is Intel Corp., the world’s biggest semiconductor maker headquartered in the United States. That veiled bid was launched by Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor business president and CEO Hwang Chang-gyu during the company’s annual press conference at the Hotel Shilla.

‘”We have our own plans for competition with Intel but we cannot reveal them in public, and you all are well aware that we are disinclined to talk about our projections on when we will emerge as the world’s biggest chipmaker,’’ Hwang said.

However, Hwang said the central processing unit (CPU) microprocessor market, roughly 85 percent of which is controlled by Intel, has already neared saturation point whereas flash memory segment _ Samsung’s specialty _ should sustain robust growth rates of over 70 percent in the coming decade as it has done in the past four years.”

Targets Intels in which segment surely not the proccy segment... And AFAIK Intel aint into flash memory..
 
They want to target Intel in the sense that they want to be the world number one semi-conductor manufacturing company. They're talking about flash memory, not microprocessors. I'm guessing they mean being number one in terms of revenue and pieces manufactured per year.

About 2 years back they(Intel) had made AMD suffer huge losses by purposely dumping and undercutting the prices of flash memory products.
