We've previously covered some juicy rumors that Samsung is working on a 5-inch 1080p screen of its own. Competing manufacturers have already announced plenty of smartphones with such a screen, so the race is in full swing while Samsung is not even the list.

Well, fret not, because Sammy has its sleeves all rolled up, working hard on a 4.99-inch 1080p screen and best of all, it's of the Super AMOLED variety.

A hawk-eyed writer for AnandTech.com spotted this roadmap at Samsung's booth. It clearly shows the company's next generation screen.

The new screen should be available in Q1, 2013. This may as well be the screen for the future Samsung Galaxy SIV or why not even a Note II mini?

Samsung claims its new generation AMOLEDs will use 25% less power and will even have a new low-power mode. Well, we guess we'll know more when we know more.

I just hope they make the upcoming devices better looking than the current ones. :annoyed:

More than looks, I want better build quality.

well of-course SGSIV will b d 1st device to get this kind of grand display unit...:hail:

SONY XPERIA Z & ZL have both got a 5" display and will release much ahead of this rumoured device.

Also the hTC Droid DNA already has the display of that size.

It is going to be made of plastic for sure :P

My XPERIA go is also plastic OR maybe poly-carbonate but feels so much more substantial to hold.

And I am not going to mention the NOKIA Lumia 920 which is a tank in the fullest sense.

Almost all phones are made of plastic save for a few.

Samsung has earned the distinction because of choosing very filmsy materials, especially in their Galaxy S II, which was their flasgship at that time. They've improved a lot now though, but the experience with their "plasticky" flasgship still remains fresh in some users' minds.

I don't mind a plastic build. I want that build to be strong.

Galaxy S II had a nice patterned design on the back whilst the S III has a piano finish that I intently despise. The HOME button is the biggest grudge I have against SAMSUNG, after some time of usage it becomes loose (at-least to my sensibilities) and that annoys me most.

I cannot ask them to change their base material but I expect them to learn something from NOKIA, SONY, hTC and MOTOROLA about how to make it exude some strength, rigidity.

This is all I meant, in no ways am I deriding SAMSUNG for TouchWiz OR other features. Cheers!
