I have a Sapphire HD 5850 1GB graphics card (non reference design). Bought it in May 2010. Has been working fine for so long. But today while playing Call Of Duty Black Ops, my system crashed :O. It became non responsive and i had to keep my power button pressed for 6sec to turn it off. After this it wouldn't start again :(.

The graphics card fan runs at full rpm (its very loud) and there is no display. My motherboard is unable to detect the gpu . tried it by plugging it into a friends pc but still same result.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting all cables. Also reset my motherboard bios but no help.

System config -
Core i5-750
ASUS P7P55D-E Pro
GSkill DDR3-1600 2x2GB F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO
Sapphire Radeon HD5850
Corsair TX650
Segate Barracuda 250GB 7200rpm
WD Caviar Black 1TB
Lancool K62

everything is running at stock. no overclocking. Please help!! :'(

PS - the motherboard gives a long beep followed by 3 short beeps which according to the user manual means that the motherboard didn't detect any graphics card installed.

Try someone else's GPU in ur machine if ur machine runs fine on someone else's GPU... then sorry to say ur GPU is dead... :D... And also try to remove and re insert the RAM... coz RAM can also cause this problem... :)

More than likely, your GPU has blown... :(

As Hades. has suggested, try installing sumone elses GPU in your system. If it works fine, you can be sure that the GPU is dead...

Hope your GPU was purchased locally with a warranty and not sourced from abroad.

tried reinstalling ram.. no progress.. trying to search for a separate gpu.. live in hostel.. everyone has laptop, very few desktop. And those with desktops, dont have gpu. :(

yes, i got it through my brother from US. bought it through newegg. any chance of repair under warranty?

arrey dude take out ram piece one by one and try, happened to be few days ago

i did overclock it to 850mhz core and 1200mhz ram.. no over-volt (its a non-reference design, so cant change voltages). was quite stable. no artifacts or crashing during furmark. ran furmark and heaven overnight (one at a time) without any problems. but this was in nov 2010. just wanted to see how much could i push the card. but had been back on stock speeds since then. the card died while i was playing COD Black Ops.
