Storage Solutions Sata 3 Cable with 5 year old 250 GB HDD

I am upgrading my motherboard to a ASUS CHIV

It has the option to use Sata 3 Cables for HDD

I wanted to know if the Sata 3 cables will fit my old 250GB Seagate ST3250310SV HDD ?

Yes they are compatible with each other. Physical connectors and the cables remain unchanged.

However, 1 more clarification :

if the Cables & Connectors are same, then why are there 2 sets of Cables with my motherboard for 3 GBPS & 6 GBPS marked & colored differently ?

Just a marketing trick ?
