Hi I would like to buy SATA power cables for any PSU. I will re-pin them to match mine.
I really hope you know what you're doing personally know a guy who fried his entire system just by using a different generation of cables from same brand.

PSU cable standards are a complete mess, avoidable at best , better option would be to get sata splitters or good quality or custom molex to sata plugs.

Have used this many times with good results so far no fried drive or component

Yes I am taking care of this. I have in fact gotten my first self rewired cable tested by an electrician for compatibility against the original cable for the psu. I tested & compared it myself using a continuity meter too.

Thanks for the bump

would have sent you my extra cables , that is if i wasnt a data hoarder just like you and wasnt already asking friends for their extra cables, i do plan to order some sata splitter soon i can order extra if youd like though i order in bulk, saves on shipping , as shipping costs more than the product itself:laughing:

I am experimenting with zfs. What do you use?

From where do you order?
It's surprising that these parts aren't available in India even at a unreasonable price. Cooler Master asked me to import it from Europe that too from RMA products.

For ZFS i will ping you in DMs but i mostly use Z2 as it gives sufficient redundancy without having too much over head and easier to manage as well.

yeah its a pain to be data hoarder in india there is no proper used market its quite unfortunate ebay died in india, and every small thing needs to be imported also aliexpress has also stopped shipping to india as most sellers dont ship to india now.

i import sata splitters from newegg, silverstone(yeah the company) atleast these particular ones , they convert one sata port to 3 or 4 port and one molex to 3 sata port so you can basically convert a cheap ass psu from your normal 6 sata port to say 12 or 14 , depending upon the drives and their wattage when they all spool up.

staggered spooling is advisable even if you have a larger PSU , truenas does have a staggered boot up because 7200rpm drives can suck upto 20-25 watts(depending upon drives) during spooling and imagine 30 drive spooling up at the same time.

How do we configure this in TrueNas? Also won't this need hardware support from the motherboard? Isn't there a pin which controls this? Pin 11 I think?

yes when you pass through the HBA to truenas and it is configured to IT mode not RAID mode you can manage the drive spin up , if they are connected to sata ports on motherboard then it would depend upon the motherboard controller and should have some control in the motherboard bios , most serve bios does have some options regarding this.

I am not in a hba yet. What's your overall configuration?
