Dear friends,

My Seagate 500GB HDD is showing this error- "Pri HDD: S.M.A.R.T Error. Please backup your files and replace". So I am planning to send the HDD to RMA. Meanwhile, I want to buy 1TB internal HDD. But I am in dilemma which one to buy- Seagate 1TB or WD 1TB???

Waiting for your replies.....

I'd suggest WD. Seagate had many issues, with the HDD's and even with the A.S.S. And everyone knows about their RMA Service.
Which again differs from person to person and generally speaking Seagate RMA seems to be better (read faster) than WD at the moment.

Although i myself own the Seagate, i wouldnt recommend it to OP wholeheartedly, but that does seem to be the better option. Its a toss up between the two frankly, and give this guide a read before you do decide.

^^Well ya that's true, that suggestion differs person to person.

I voted for WD because, here in TE I saw many guys reporting about their failing 1TB from Seagate. Though this issue has been minimized in 7200.12 series(AFAIK).

But many of my friends and me too owns WD HDD, and still running perfectly fine without any glitch. :)

And once one of my friends HDD gone caput, she called the WD Customer Care, they came and picked it up from home and returned/replaced(not sure) within 1 week :)

So I like their door to door RMA service.

Whereas many peoples complains about their harrasment for RMA'ing their Seagate HDD's from Accel Frontline.

Thanks for the replies gus.......

I think I will go for Western Digital SATA 1TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive 64MB

Also, what about Caviar Green 1TB 64MB????

I am planning to buy 1TB WD10EARS-00Y5B1 64MB Cache.......... but I am in confusion whether it is 5200RPM or 7200...

Will this give the same performance as Seagate 1TB 7200.12RPM 32MB Cache HDD?????

No It wont.

WD Green runs at 5400RPM whereas Seagate 1TB 7200.12 runs at 7200RPM

i also have the same question. Which one should I get :

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache

or

Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache

Both are having same prices . They will primarily be for storage and no OS.

Activities : Medium gaming n above average movies not the fully HiDef ones

Go with Seagate .

Me too prefer Seagate as Accel is very close to my house and currently have a seagate 500gb 7200 RPM 32MB Cache nand having no prob.

But I actually want to know purely on performance basis not service and reputation which one is better
