Storage Solutions Seagate 320 GB 7200.10 16MB in Mumbai?

I found a seagate 320GB at lammy, seems Prime has it, now he's quoted 5200/- for it. he also has the 'absent from samsungs website' SP2504C for 3800/-

Big price difference...which one should I get?? Also I should look for a Singapore drive right? Ideal price?
 
Had got the seagate for 5150 a few months back from prime...the samsung 250 does look good at the price but a few mbps slower than the seagate 320...also check out the Hitachi 320GB T7K500 series.

Will do...the temptation to RAID 0 the 250 with my WD2500KS is also a strong plus point....what's the hitachi 320 priced at?

1.4K seems a lot to pay for 70 odd gigs more...
 
^ Friend bought a 320GB 7200.10 in Goa for 5k all inclusive so you should bargain to 4.8k atleast...

and how is the WD CAVIAR 320GB 16MB drive guys ?

any idea ?

Seagate dealers here are quoting me 5.5k for 16mb 320gb 7200.10 sata drive.

LOL bought it for 5k less than a week back. The Caviar is slower and moreover has only 3years warranty unless you can find the RAID edition. You are probably better off with Hitachi.
 
^^Seems WD fixed its RMA issues or so one of the dealers was saying... they do door to door RMA now. BTW if anyone is buying, he/she is better off with the 8MB drive than the 16MB drive. I have both and the 8MB drive is around 2.5MB/s faster than the 16MB drive :bleh:.
 
Just bought today seagate 320 GB for 5200 from Nehru Place, New Delhi.... he couldn't get it from the main dealer so he outsourced it from another one..... lol even the distributor did not knew that it was a 16mb buffer one luckily I had taken the model number with me.... will buy another one in few months and then RAID 0 them :ohyeah: :ohyeah: :ohyeah:

Because I took other things fro him as well so i cannot say how much discount he gave me on this product ... maybe it cost me 5000 or 5100 ....
 
Well I have bought 16 MB drive from Maxtor only becaz I read that 16 MB drives are slightly faster and less taxing on the CPU....

YUP sticker definately made/printed/designed by Seagate :ohyeah:

EDIT: I have seen a few posts in other forums where people mention problems and dead 7200.10 HDDs ... anyone here had any problem with these HDDs - besides the whining sound ? I have not come across any complaints for these HDDs in TE.

Duh don't scare me :P. 3 out of 4 drives in my machine are 7200.10 drives :P.

I have seen a few posts even in the Storagereview 7200.10 thread complaining about problems with these HDDs - some of the last few posts in this thread are about problems with these drives.

I have never believed that if the HDDs in the West have problems with a HDD series then it is necessary that we too will see the same. I would not worry about this unless your local HDD seller mentions a problem with local stock. Just keep a seperate backup of your important data for a while until you feel convinced that the HDD is working fine.

You never know which lot of HDDs are problamtic like for instance the IBM 75GXP Deathstars and the Maxtor DM 8 and 9 series and the Seagate 7200.8 series. Even WD and Samsung each had one bad series (right ?) ... all drive makers seem to have their bad days... except Hitachi ... so far ... touch wood.... maybe its Hitachi's turn next :(

EDIT: What I think is that many many more 7200.10 are selling today compared to any other HDD. So lets say even if 1% of them fail than there will be many more units failing than 1% of other HDDs series who sell much lesser units ..... that could be why in the forums there are much fewer HDD failure posts about other brands compared to the 7200.10
