Storage Solutions Seagate 500gb vs 1gb 7200.12

hello guys, gonna buy a hdd for my friend.

For him 500gb is more than enuf. But somewhere in this forum i read that the 1tb 7200.12 drives are better than the 500gb ones. Is this true ?.

If the 1TB is going to be fault free than the 500gb one, then he will opt for the ITB . On the contrary if both has the same faulty firmware and there is no diff. between them except the disk space, then he will opt for 500gb itself.

plz suggest....
 
both the 7200.12 drives should be equally reliable/unreliable :P .... the 500gb should run a little cooler and faster since it's supposed to be a single platter drive :)
 
If you plan to load OS / games on that drive get the WD 640GB AAKS from Amarbir-Lynx .If you need it just for data dumping (storing movies,setups etc.) get a WD 500GB/1TB Green drive.

I would advice to stay away from Seagate ,due to the high failure rate of 7200.11 drives .Though 7200.12 seems to be more reliable compared to .11 ,I would still suggest WD as a better option at the moment and even the door to door RMA service is better compared to Seagate.

But he is intrested only in Seagate since he has used seagate hdds quite for a long time. Moreover i read that even the WDs are failing as well as the seagates. And that too i heard that the seagate drives are lot more faster than the WDs...
 
How come everyone forgets to mention that WD drives come with a 5year warranty, whereas Seagate gives only 3yrs warranty. Latest Seagate 7200.12 series are as reliable as WD.

Seagate only 3yrs? Lol my new 7200.12 1TB carries warranty till June 2014. What do you say :P

@OP, Go for the 7200.12 single platter 500GB. Runs cooler. Less risk :P. You save money also lolz

mate, i have wrongly stated 1TB as 1GB.

You made some statement in HINDHI which i dont understand. Before making this statement did u read the number 7200.12 ?.

The thread title 7200.12 itself denotes a 7200 rpm drive and that can only be a 1TB drive and not a 1GB drive.

Think twice before you respond mate...

Okey. But is there any specific model number which i should go for. Are both the single platter and double platter hdds available in seagate 500gb ?.

Plz suggest me the exact model number i should opt for in seagate 500gb sata...

There is another model ST3500418AS, right ?. I heard that the difference between the 410as and the 418as is the former is eco friendly with less noise and lower power consumption and also the former confirms with the industry standards and is low halogen. The latter doesnt confirm to all these.

In case if the 410as isnt available in the Chennai market, is it safe to go with the 418as (which doesnt comply these standards) ??
