^Eh? Seagate drives have 3 year warranty as opposed to WD which gives a 5 year warranty for internal drives and 3 years for external drives.
Nope. WD also has decresed internal drive warranty to 3 years :( Saw it Rahul's HDD sale thread and he too confirmed it.

But the page still says 'ENTERPRISE, DESKTOP, AND NOTEBOOK DRIVES IN INDIA HAVE A 5YEAR WARRANTY' at the bottom.

^Nah, called up their toll free number (1800-200-5789) just now - the representative said Caviar Green drives have a 3 year warranty and the Caviar Black has a 5 year warranty. Did not bother enquiring about the rest.

Don't want to start a new thread.I need a 500GB Hdd. ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 Motherboard(Which I intend to upgrade) with SATA(not SATA-II)

Storage

Intel® ICH7 SouthBridge supports:

- 1 x Ultra DMA 100/66/33

- 4 x Serial ATA 3Gb/s ports

My Doubt is ,If I Buy SATA-II drive ,Will The Motherboard Supports?

--

Also ,Which Seagate 500GB Model ,assuming Motherboard Upgrade is Due?

Isnt 3gb/s SATA-II , Sata I is 1500 mb/s but they are anyways cross compatible . Your's is SATA II only i think .

The 7200.12 500 GB is a decent buy @ ~ 2k

^What is the 500GB Model Name(Seagate) ,which has highest cache size?IIRC 16MB? ...or Is there 500GB with 32 MB Cache?

Thanks.

seagate ... will trust hitachi , samsung any hard disk you name but .. from my experience will never buy SEAGATE

7200.12 are also bricking

better opt for WD (green) .. :) .. no such issues with it

Bought Seagate 500GB (7200.12)ST3500418AS(with extra 2 SATA Cables) For Rs1890/- 30 minutes back .Yet to Connect the Drive.Verified Warranty is Only For 3 Years :( .

Some Queries:

#Why there is No Box Cover?Just wrapped/sealed/

#There is a Sticker Which locks the Cover of hard disk written as "The Content is Made in Thailand".While in the backside it is written Manufactured in Singapore. Is this OK?which countries seagate hdds are built?

Regards,

I have the same HDD, got it for Rs.3350. Decent transfer rates.
It has been making sharp noises while switching off, but seatools shows no errors and I see that the performance in on par with most of its kind. So, not thinking of RMA.

Fixed! :)

Any drive can go bad within a period of time not limited to Seagate alone so it's better to keep a backup of the data at all times.

Well said......don't trust any brand rather take backup of all important data

using a 7200.11 1TB for almost a yr. no problems.

planning to buy another HDD soon. have not decided on 1tb/2 tb and manufacturer yet

MY only issue with the Seagate's is the heat. They just become so hot after a extended use whereas my WD green's seem to run warm. Probably heat is one of the reasons the Seagate's seem to go bad in any enclosed box like a NAS or Raid enclosure.

Well . i had got a Seagate and it is not even 2 months and the HDD is dead and not powering on !

I am actually too shocked to even figure what happened ! Good thing is i backed up all the data yesterday only
