What the difference is between the two Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB ST3500410AS & ST3500418AS hard drives?
I checked the specs on Seagate site and Google'ed but couldn't find satisfactory answer.

Exact difference you can't say. What I feel is there is no such thing called 418AS drive except the sticker on it, because the windows or linux they will detect this 418AS drives as 410AS, they made stickers but internal details are 410As only and also acoustic difference is there but i heard somewhere you can change these acoustic details with some software. you can google it.
I have 2* 500GB 7200.12 drives of ST3500418AS model.

Is there any firmware difference which made the model difference.

But nothing of that sort was mentioned on their site.

410 is more eco friendly with slightly less power consumption & noise, also it is cooler than 418. But its also slower than 418 'coz of these features...

I had asked this same question on this forum & ultimately got answer myself from web....

^^ we can't really say so.

Seagate is giving different reasons to different people for same question.

What my guess is just a trick to increase their sales with a fresh look.

Old wine in a new bottle.
