Storage Solutions Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB. Need advice.

I am planning to buy FreeAgent Desk 1 TB.

The reviews I have found online are keeping me from buying it. It a major complaint that these drives keep failing.

WD is not an option because it comes with a very annoying built in software. I have been using two seagate drives for last 4 years without any issues. I prefer seagate.
Do any TE members own this drive? Any Issues with this model?

How do the Seagate Expansion External Drives compare with the FreeAgent ones?

TBH, no one has exactly say when the drives can fail
Even the best drives fail at some point in time, some can run for ages

Its your luck and how well you maintain it (external drives should be kept as much away from dust)

Freeagent has 5 years warranty vs 3 years by WD
If its precious data, its best to have a second backup :) thats the max one can do
 
I just got this today and it looks good. The transfer rate is pretty slow, getting only 26 MBps. Will take about 10 hours to fill the disk. Lol :P

which is expected in a USB mode

For faster speeds, you should have got esata models

Yes I know USB would be slow. My friends WD Passport was giving about 24 MBps. I was expecting some 30+ atleast for this one.

What makes u think that you should get 30+ Mbps, while ur friend gets 24 Mbps? If it is USB, then it will be same. :)
