hello guys, when i contacted seagate customer care the executive told me that i should use both the "Y" cables. Is it necessary ?. There are three ends for a Y cable; one end which connects to the drive and the other two ends connect to the USB port of our PC.

Because at the Y end in one cable its written data and the other thicker one its written power + data. I always connect only the thicker one (because it has power + data). Will this practice damage my drive ?. Please advice...

if the drive works perfectly with one connection then there is no problem at all, the extra port is added for user who have low powered usb ports (esp in some laptops & old motherboards).if you connect both connectors together then the device will only draw half currents from each port, which is good for laptops under battery backups.

Ok guys, lets see how its going to work when i start using it with both the ends connected. Because sometimes it doesnt connect properly and i have to disconnect/reconnect it. So hereafter i am going to use both the ends as possible. The seagate TSO asked me whether i am using both or only one...
