Seagate GoFlex Home or any other alternatives?

Hi folks.
I need a little download box + NAS box at my place. I'm looking at the cheapest solution and something that consumes minimum amount of power. I need to have a SATA interface for connecting a 3.5" hdd.

The Goflex Home seems like a good choice with a Kirkwood 1.2Ghz processor and SATA interface with gigabit LAN. How much can I find these for without a goflex hdd? Ebay.com had some for around $50. Any place I can find it for cheaper?

What are the other cheap alternatives I have? How good is a Pogoplug compared to Goflex home in terms of transfer speeds? (I'll have to use ext4 I guess. NTFS is too taxing on these CPUs)

If you need a SATA interface then only option is a GoFlex Net or GoFlex Home or Pogoplug Series 4. Then you have the Pogoplug Pro but its not Kirkwood based so support wise its a bit limited.

Pogoplug Series 4 -- Amazon.com: Pogoplug Series 4 Backup Device [Newest Version]: Camera & Photo

The Pogoplug Series 4 comes with a 800 Mhz processor and has USB 3.0 as well as a SATA port.

If USB 2.0 is fine, you can go for the Pogoplug P21 which uses the same 1.2 GHz Kirkwood processor but with 256 MB RAM. You can get it for about 1.75k.

Transfer speeds through USB should be same for the Kirkwood based Pogoplug P21 and the GoFlex Home/Net.

Yeah I was leaning towards Goflex because the Pogoplug doesn't have as good a processor. The P21 has Kirkwood 1.2Ghz but no SATA. USB 3.0 is worthless on these devices. Besides the main reason I want SATA is because I'll have to buy a separate enclosure/dock for the internal drive I have, not to mention better/stable speeds on SATA.

Also, just to make sure, I can plug in an internal 3.5" hdd directly on the Goflex without it's enclosure right? Don't care if it looks weird, just needs to work. :P

Yes, on a GoFlex Home you can mount an internal 3.5" drive directly. :)
