Storage Solutions Seagate HDD latest prices

Had checked it on comp ware house B'lore's website yesterday. 400GB SATA costs Rs 6,650/- and PATA around Rs 6,400/-. Should be cheaper on SP road but comp ware house's prices are mostly pretty close to SP Road prices.

Guess someone has to start buying the 400GB HDDs for to make them cheaper and eventually move away from 320(my..that is an odd figure.)

500GB has also reduced by around Rs 500/- but the at the price point it is, it's ridiculous to buy them. I wonder when manafacturers will stop wasting our time and reduce prices on 500GB. It's a much better figure in terms of storage.

they'll keep the >400 sector HDD's at a premium cuz they are their LARGEST offerings. we'll see steep price drops once the TB HDDs begin to show up.which i remind u is not too far. so once the kings are replaced by Emperors the price will soon fall!!!

what i hear is tat 1 TB is already out in the market and is avaiable for 12-13k

my dealer was suggesting me to go for it.....

:p

would have taken it had i not purchase 3 250 GB HDD lately......

now I wish I had taken up 1TB

Grrr........

1TB will not be less than 20K - rest assured. the 750gb swirls around 17K with no certain availability, only rumors around. & guyz, the 320gb HDD's are 7200.10 perpendicular storage disks, head to toe different from the 400/500's. I guess next 7200.10 after 320gig is a 750gb one only.

I guess all capacities from Seagate after 250GB are from the 7200.10 series. So 320GB and higher HDD capacities would be based on perpendicular recording technology.
1 TB for 12-13K in India would not be possible. I think they would horribly overprice it for the rich folks to get their bragging rights at least for the first month. When the Seagate 750GB came in India, it retailed for 33K in the first week and then gradually reduced on a weekly basis. (Wonder what that dealer meant when he said 1TB for 12-13K?)
The problem with the current scenario is that even old 40GB HDDs are still finding buyers (with maybe older PCs)in the market thereby preventing a price drop for higher capacities. If you look at the market, there exists unique price point for each capacity starting from 40 to 750 GB.
IMO, once the buying of 200GB and lower capacities stops, prices will automatically come down. We might then get the 320GB HDDs for 2K maybe
:hap5:

40gb HDD's still make a lot of sense in Office/corporate PCs where u just need a working node & connect to the server. 40gb is just too enough to install any OS (incl Vista) & other Office day2day appz. Still there will be ample space left out for some personal stuff. But yeah for home PCs i don't thing anything under 200 is useful.
& yes chaos said he spotted a 500gb 7200.10. But I'd say better check thouroughly before buying. There is still so much of 400gb old stock lying around.

40GB might be pushing it. Sure the OS and related apps will get installed but performance will be very poor. Swap file would grow and take a lot of space. XP is bloatware so it would grow like a cancer with usage.

80GB is has found favour with most corporates as it reduces helpdesk calls on performance :) and since 80GB and 40GB almost cost the same. So no sense in using 40GB anymore :).

Well...an update. 400GB, 500GB and 750GB prices have fallen by about

Yeah...maybe the mods can rename the thread...like Seagate HDD current prices or something like that.

xfactor, HDD brand is Seagate.

I am trying to buy a Seagate 400GB external hard disk. Can anyone let me know the indian price and dollar price? The HDD should be new and not refurbished (repaired).

Guys i read reviews about external HDDs of seagate from amazon. People have come up with miserable experiences. It seems 400GB seagate HDD has crashed a lot of times and even went dead for few. They plead not to buy the product. Am really confused now.

Please let me know if u people have valuable inputs on this regard. Also some links about review of the HDD (latest reviews. because many reviews are dated back to 2005).

Lastly, what difference it makes to buy an external hard disk versus getting an internal hard disk (having it in a casing and making it as external HDD)

Seems these will take lot of patience to reply.. maybe even bits and pieces of answers to the above queries is most welcome..

Another price drop....here it comes.

Seagate 750GB and 500GB HDD prices have come down by Rs 1K and Rs 500/-respectively.
New prices

PATA
====
500 GB 7500
750 GB 14000

SATA
====
500 GB 7600
750 GB 14000

Could the mods please rename the thread to something like "Seagate HDD latest prices"?
