I had bought a Seagate 7200.12 1TB (Model no ST31000528AS) recently.
HDTune shows it has a very high amount of reallocated sectors (value=746). :(

Now clearly this drive is bad, but the thing is that neither the SMART tests nor the Seatools tests fail. All of them pass. I wanted to know if Seagate would still accept this drive for warranty or do I have to wait till it dies? :(
 
i am not sure but i have read somewhere that seatools should detect it as bad for rma
but the guys at accel never check your hdd they just ask you what is wrong and take the drive
dont know whether they check it later though
 
Yeah that's what I'm gonna say, the drive has bad sectors and it doesn't get detected properly sometimes. I hope they don't check the drive and just give me a replacement.
 
it has nothing to do with replacements.

the accel people too use the seatools first and then act accordingly that whether to go the replcament way or repair the same.

You can even scan with the seatools yourselves and it generates some 6digit code. you can use it when filling the form online or @ accel.
 
Sorry for hijacking the thread,

but I just found that my Seagate 160gb HDD fail "SMART" test, also speedfan flag WATCH for "Seek Error Rate". But at same time I found that a Speedfan test, day before showed disk fitness 85% but now it showing 90%.

So guys what to do? hdd under warranty till 2013. Also where to go for RMA in Thane/Mumbai?

Get it RAMed.... Use 'clues' mentioned above to get the RMA done... ;)

Guys for my 1tb hdd, hd sentinel says 77 percent health, hd tune pro flashes warning, crystaldiskinfo gives a warning in three counts but seatools says everything is fine!!!!

What a crap software!! can i rma it?

Technically speaking, u can..... but it all depends on the RMA guys u have to deal with.....

Seatools is one hell of a stupid tool..... :@

It is most frustrating when this happens..... :@ All the Best....
 
OT: why dont they list this place (mumbai) on their site i sent my drive to f*cking chennai!!!!
