I purchased Seagate internal 500HDD on 18-2-2009
ST3500410AS
Firmware version : CC34

Today I got an error from windows asking to repair or replace the HDD, so I ran HDTune ErrorScan and 3 error were discovered. I also ran Seatools, it failed the short DST test. So I decided to RMA, but the warranty check failed.

On Seagate website Im getting this
" Unknown
Warranty could not be determined. Please check the serial and product numbers entered and try again. If the problem persists, contact your nearest Customer Support center."

On Accel's website Im getting "No record(s) found"

I know that Seagate has reduced warranty on its internal drives but this drive was purchased when it was offering 5 year warranty, so the drive is still in warranty. How should I go ahead with this issue?

i bought my Seagate HDD 4 yrs back,gave it accel on 22 oct last month.....brought from them today..

workin good till now...I think they have stopped giving the Certified Repaired Drive....its nowhere written on the drive...U should go to accel directly and check whether its still under warrenty...

@SwOrd_K did Accel ask you for the RMA print out? Did you check your HDD's warranty yourself on Seagate's or Accel's website?

My HDD is failing the warranty check on both the websites

Me too. But with this flood problem, guess they will start back old practice again.
 
Do you have a bill for the drive? Where did you buy the drive from?

If it was out of warranty, it would just state that its out of warranty. Unknown warranty implies there is a problem with the serial number (for eg.: it might be a grey market piece.)

P.s.: Its safer not to put up your HDD's serial number out in public.
 
@Crazy_Eddy I purchased it from Data care corporation (Pune) with bill and VAT paid

Regarding the serial number thanks for the heads up

Couldn't go through Seagate's chat so Ive mailed them the details, awaiting their reply.

In Warranty Warranty End Date: 01/22/2014

happy to see that my drive is still in warranty. However cannot verify it at Accel's or Seagate's website. Sent another mail regarding this, to Seagate
