Storage Solutions Seagate worst RMA Service - Paranoia ensued. Please help

Hi,

I have (had?) a Seagate Goflex Freeagent 1tb 2.5" External hard drive. The computer stopped detcting it and some click and churn sound was playing in the drive on listening with a close ear. With a heavy heart I let my 1tb of important data off and passed on to getting a fixed drive.

I checked my Seagate Warranty Staus which said it was still in warranty and suggested to file a RMA so I did everything according to the instructions and sent the drive on 5th August as per the instructions to :-

On 8th August I checked with Bluedart that my drive had been delivered in Chennai and received by Mr. Ravikumar.

But since 8th Aug, I have been checking my Seagate Order status and it is showing "No" in received column. So yesterday I called the Seagte Customer Care at 1800-425-4535, after half an hour of hold a lady picked up and she said that the Serial No. of my drive is invalid (FYI it is NA05BSTP) and my order no. i.e. 1004387821 is also invalid. The above is apparently impossible because it is written on my drive and on entering it in warranty check of seagate's site it gave the complete detail of my drive. You can see it here :-

So I asked her what to do and she told me to speak to the Seagate's "Head Office" on the No. 044-66873134. There the person told me the same thing that my order no. and serial no. is mismatch or something. Anyways he asked me the Bluedart Consg. No. and told me that he will do the check and call me asap.

In an hour he called me back and said that my hard disk has been received my Accel Frontline (which he probably said by checking the tracking sttaus on net as I heard him instructing his Asst.) but it is without cables. Of course as written in instructions I had sent the drive without USB cables, so he said its no problem, my issues will be solved and cut the line.

I am quite skeptical about the whole issue and why both the guys are saying that serial no. and order no. is a mismatch. I will ernestly request you guys to help me on the same and suggest me whom to contact and what actions to take.

It seems like a delivery glitch or something.

May be they mixed it up with someone else's.

But btw where did you buy your drive from?

Was it online or through a retail outlet in India?

Some of these drives which are sold online, are having spurious serial numbers which show up fine in the Seagate site but actually are invalid for RMA in India.

But I think you should wait for some time as they have said it'll be resolved.

I am facing exactly the same problem.

Is your case resolved? If yes, then after how many days can i expect to get my Hard disk returned from Chennai office?

It has been 5 working days since they received my package but the online tracker shows- "Awaiting your return".

Also do share more contact numbers, if any. The seagate site doesn't mention any.
