Google recently announced secured connection (SSL) for Gmail users now Google is to rolling out secured connection for Google search. This protects your search queries more secured in the internet cloud. If you are using normal Google your search queries can be tracked by third person. If you use https://www.google.com there will be a dedicated communication channel between Google server and your computer.
Though Google Images and Google Maps are not currently available over SSL but i guess soon it would be.
