Sorry to bump the the thread but here are some results from HD Tune. Just ran on both the harddrive. The Wd640Aaks is fine while the Segate 1Tb has some peculiar results.

Is there something to be worried about. I ran the quick run test for the health check since the normal run will take ages to complete. Is the quick run reliable enough ?

Quick run test will not help mate. For a 1TB hdd, the thorough test will take app. 2 hrs. Perform it in the night and go to bed :D.

These quick run tests can be compared with quick format. Because a full format will mark bad sectors and a quick format wont. Same is the case with quick tests...

@Dark Star, have you tried windows check disk (chkdsk) ?? and yes as anfjavid have said, quick test will not help, you will have to run a through scan

offtopic: but this tell's me the hdd may not be issue, check your power supply output quality/ grounding.

go thru my sig, i run seagate drives, and even the highly dreaded 500gb ones never failed on me

My 1tb seagate barracuda 7200.12 was dead (used only 3 months), and so I went to RMA centre, they took it, didnt even check that drive, they just said that I will be getn replacement drive within 20 days. I waited for almost 2 months, after that I got a call from them to pick up my HDD from that centre. I brought it (certified repaired hdd), used it hardly for 6 days, again it failed. I again went to rma centre, they took it, noted it, and said 15 days. This time I got a call from them in 15 days and I got my 1tb repaired certified hdd. To my surprise, this one also failed within 1 week. So its still lying in my house. I wont bother to RMA any hdd in future. So i purchased a new 1tb hdd and using it since 6 months, works like a charm. No probs yet.

I cant comment on your situation, coz LUCK is also a factor which plays very imp role in HDD issues

If you are lucky and have got a good replacement drive then its bound to work fine for several months or years... but depends....
