Intro:
So, here i am, a total dud for audio quality, in whos perspective, an audiophile is nothing but a misspelled music file. Incidentally, my cousin sis decided to drop in from the Bushtown (read U.S.A.) and she calls me a day b4 she comes...a DAY and asks me what i want.
Unable to decide what to ask, i say 'just get me a decent headset' and this is what she gives me: The Sennheiser HMD pro 280 - 13. This is my first review and since i am no good at distinguishing between noise n music, i will try to keep it short...also am directly lifting some of the text from the box-pack of the headset..pls bear with me
Features:
Now, i have been on the forums long enough to realise the kind of value and respect that these Sennheiser products carry (I for one, cant even pronounce the name right). Anyway, i happily carry the cans to my room, boot the comp and carefully open the package. The adujust the band and promptly dont he headset. Now, to just connect these to my sblive! and to find out what these are capable of..BUT..guess what?..there are no Headphone n mic jacks..just tinned ends at the end of the long cable.
I stare flabberghasted at these for a moment and shout for my brother-in-law (He is one of those audioflies..err philes..and it was his bright idea to buy these cos he already owns a pair). Anyways, he asks me to give him ten mins and he gets to the task of connecting the std. headfone n mic pins.
30 mins later, i am all set.
The experience:
First of all, am not exaggerating when i say that these headphones redefine what noise-cancelling means. You enter an entirely different dimension of silence as soon as u put them on.
Music
I decide to start of with some Jimi hendrix, then onto the Eagles and various other oldies. I was and am still amazed at the number of sounds that i missed on these songs when i listen to them with my normal heaset. I could make out every pluck, every twang, every squeak in every guitar in Hotel California.
Then i shifted to some alt-rock and they sounded awesome. The bass, the mids were all spot on. Initially i felt that the treble was too high, but a bit of tweaking n toying with the EQ set things right.
Gaming
Soon, i decided to try these out in gaming. Here though, i couldnt find any profound differences from my older headset, but i think i did hear TE | Daddy fart a couple of times, so these cans must be REALLY good.
Movies
Next came the movies, and i was left speechless after watching RDB. Dint try any other movie yet.
Usage
These cans are very very light and i have used them for 4-5hrs straight without any strain (used to get a neck-ache after 1 hr with my older set).
The microphone, btw is pretty good and cuts out all surrounding noise and transmits only the voice. The mic can also be worn on either side.
Also, everything including the earpads n microphone n cable is replaceable (err..read modular)
Conclusion:
Well, what can i say? This headset really blows my senses away and i will soon raid DC's house after he gets his X-fi, to test them on the X-fi.
As for the price, since these were gifted to me, when i asked about the price, all i got was a whack on my head and a "go to ur room" look. Am not complaining, but i think the senny website rates these at around 279USD.
Well, thats it..am done with this review :ashamed:
