CPU/Mobo Serial Port on DFI Ultra-D !

Hi !

I need to connect my Walky to my PC ASAP. It uses only a Serial port datacable (which ironically the Ultra-D doesn't have).

Now my questions :

1. Will the extendable Serial port cable of the SLI-DR fit on the Ultra-D ?
2. Is there any USB -> Serial Converter ?
3. Is there any PCI Serial card ?

Ok, ok, Is there ANY way to get a Serial port on the Ultra-D ?
 
I do not remember now exactly but is there any 9 pin DB-9serial connector on the m/b. you may check the manual (both the paper and electronic versions). (check somewhere near those diagnostic LED Lights area)

if there is then just connect a external serial cable to that connector from any other m/b package.
 
Yes, just confirmed it on DFI-Street. Its a regular 9-pin Com port.

Now if anybody has an extra cable, I'd be glad :D
 
Yep I was surprised too when I couldnt find one, seems motherboard manufacturers are keen to eradicate legacy ports to make up valuable space for other ports.

Anyway its a standard cable and most hardware dealers should have spares available on hand, the motherboard serial port header follows the general standard as well. I picked up mine from Ritchie street and it worked fine - had the same reason as you for using it i.e. was using it with a FWP for net access (not using it anymore though :P). If you have the cable from another board package as well, it should work fine.
 
Guys ne way for a parallel port support on DFI , require that to connect my dotmatrix printer.

Are there any addon cards if yes approx cost .

Are there any usb to parallel port converters[Just asking]

ps: i wont be able to sent the cable today. it being a public holiday here.

ps: i have got a bunch of these 9 pin DB-9 serial cables lying around. if you all dfi ultra guys want one kindly send me a self addressed stamped envelope and get it free from me .... ( off course if you can send / donate some money (with the upper limit being what funky posted above) then it would be like :yahoo:)
 
Huh :S Public holiday today, for what ??

Hmm... lemme check locally as well now, you said alternate pin arrangement right :ohyeah:
