My Rig is

AMD Phenom II x2 550 BE @ 3.1 ghz

Kingston 2gb

Ati Radeon HD 4850 MSI, drivers - 10.1

Windows XP SP3

HuntKey PSU Green Power 550 W

Seagate 500 gb HDD

Biostar TA790GXBE motherboard.

Everything was ok till yesterday, ALL was well with no problems.

Suddenly while just chnging the time in the desk clock. The display went haywire and strange things started to happen with artifacts over the screen changing all the time, like a slide show all the time differnet patterns , was shocked and thought might be the gfx card so i started a game Burnout paradise, no issue FPS was good with no artifacts. but when i came again to desktop they started to appear.

I restarted my PC and the strange anomalies continued heres a pic.

this is curious. Do the artifacts come at the bios screen, or just once you get into windows?

wheres the monitor connected? to the display out on the card, or the motherboard?

try this

remove ur card, and boot using onboard video output

if the problem persists, ur mobo OR monitor or monitor cable is faulty

if its fine, ur card has issues

also, try running monitor on another pc

its connecyed to the gfx card , and this issue happened suddenly . Iwas just changing the time .
Now if i start the PC the monitors light is orange and there is no display at all.
Fans on gfx, procc PSU are running . and red lights on mobo are illuminated but no display
could this be monitor prob , monitor is 4 yrs old and other setup is 9 months old.

The artifacts were constantly changing, more like in A TV, patterns and color change.

Just opened the case and took a pic of back side of gfx card and look what i found.

the green spots . are wet like a paste.
is the gfx card done for?

As far as i know if the patterns are changing continuously then it means that ur video memory of ur GPU has gone corrupt...i had the same problem

Moreover u can check ur monitor is fine or not by just leaving the monitor connected to nothing xcept the power cord,,,

The monitor will start and display the "no signal" pop up on the screen

yes this problem will occur when some of the memory module in your GFX is for a toss. It happened to me in my old gfx card... got it replaced though...

so i can assure that this is more of a gfx card problem have that replaced
