I'm using MTNLs Triband in Mumbai. Wants to know which router will work with MTNL. I have the D-Link 502T modem installed.

Pls suggest routers and let me know approx price for the same. My house is abt 1200-1300 sq ft and i'd like maximum range within the house.

I've just bought a laptop from the US which is wi-fi enabled.

Can i buy the routers from Croma or will it be cheaper from the shops elsewhere?

I am using the Linksys WRT54G router. Works just fine. Had bought it around 2 years back for 2800/-. Just connect the Lan cable from your MTNL Modem to one of the four slots of your Linksys router and you are good to go. Just make sure you use WPA2 level of security in your router.

^^ On of the four slots ??? :S
I suppose in most of the wifi routers there is a WAN port where the cable from modem goes and then you can connect any other LAN devices to the remaining LAN ports.

I have a TP Link wifi router and am not able to use it with MTNL triband. It just does not work for some reason. I know that there is no problem with the router.
Also is the type of security used (WPA, WEP etc) matter in this case ??

I am using netgear wgr614v9
without any problems it costs around 1500
just plug the enet cable in any of the four port
and run the cd if you want to set up the password
or you can go to www.routerlogin.com
after you plugged in the router

and about raksrules try to reset the router
it should work fine

what is the a/b/g/n in the routers? Which one should i be buying?

Thanks for all your replies.

Can i go buy the router from croma or would it be much cheaper from a normal shop outside?

Do not buy from croma at all. They charge premium over everything. If you are located in Mumbai then go to Lamington road, if in some other city, see if you have a dedicated market place related to electronics and computer stuff and buy from there.

Is the N much better than G router?

Laptop support N too but cell phone (e63) can only support upto G.

So if speeds/range on N isn't any different I'll just buy the Linksys WRT54G2.

^^ 802.11 gives maximum speed upto 54 Mbps while for N it is 300 Mbps (AFAIK). You can go for N currently (though it may be pricier). It will be supporting a/b/g/n so can be used by your laptop as well as phone also.

abg is equally better, n will cost a bit, Croma will cost u more, cash bargain in Lamington will be a better deal, Netgear, Huwei and Buffalow will be good ... all routers wiork, just you need to know how to make it work, some routers are very easy and some need a bit of work around.
