settings are not being remembered

Gday

I have just finished reinstalling Win2k Pro (yes I know it's old), anyhoo some strange things have been happening since the clean reinstall.

1. I have a total of 3 harddrives 1 sata 2 ide, on occassion they show up as being usb devices.

No i have not changed the master slave sequence.

2. The thing that is bugging me the most, is that some not all programmes forget what settings I gave them (preferences), after a reboot.

Any ideas?
 
1. If you mean they show up as 'removable devices', thats natural for SATA drives since they support hot-swapping. However your IDE drives should not show up as removable.

No it's one of my ide drives that is showing up as a usb

Also I have flashed the bios, gotten all the latest upgrades for graphics card, sound etc etc.

But my programme preferences are still not being remembered, and I really dont want to have to do another reinstall.
 
the drive icons look like usb device??

or the device manager itself lists the drive as being usb drive ??
