I just received my Samsung Spica. The phone is a breeze to use and I kind of like it. BUT the only hassle is, that the Samsung New PC Studio that has come in the phone package on the CD doesn't seem to recognize my device. It just shows up as a COMPOSITE USB device but doesn't show up as a Samsung i5700 SPICA anywhere. I am perplexed, as I can't sync contacts with my Outlook and I can't see my phone on connecting it, as it just shows up as a USB device.

WHAT is happening here?

I have tried this on my Windows 7 laptop as well as Windows XP SP2 PC. I need a solution soon as I can't live without my contacts.

Please help.

It seems that the Sync software ( Android) is not working properly. Also please check on phone settings that (storage or connections) for options as :USB mass storage or Sync/PC etc.If available change accordingly.

Also check its comments on Android forums too.

if no hope, then try for new firmware update as follows:-

1. Get drivers, and install odin on your PC
(Index of /zefie/android/samsung_moment - FileServ)

2. Get new firmware at Home
(Home)
3. start up your phone in download mode: Vol. Down + Camera + Power

4. connect your phone to pc (might take a few tries)

5. flash boot, pda and phone to your phone using odin, and the files form samsung-firmware.

I stopped using outlook to sync my contacts long ago , google sync is the way to go , you can update your emails/messages/contacts and calender entries OTA between WinMo/Symbian/Android/IPhone .

Sorted guys. Just made a CSV of the Windows Address Book from Windows XP and uploaded to Google Mail. Then, as we all know, Android did it's magic and auto updated the contacts onto the phone without me giving it the command. Fantastic. And impressive!

The phone is a BREEZE to use! Love the appstore. And the OS is stable! Screen sensitivity is also perfect! NICE! 12.5 k for this is a JOKE!

Glad you're solved on the Sync issue. Just got a screen guard/ ward put on the touchscreen. Funny thing is, no one (even in Ghaffar Market, Delhi) knows about this model so there was no custom screen guard. Had to make do with the screen guard of LG Cookie. :D

Special applause for the 1500Mah battery: haven't had the time to use Edge/ Wifi over the last 2 days. Charged the battery on Thursday night. That 100% charge lasted me till Midnight of Sunday(45 minutes ago). I've put it to charge again now (the battery widget says battery is at 20%).

Love the phone. At 11.95 k its even more of a joke!

Hows the touch response bro? is 128MB RAM really a downer? Is it really 65K colors?:(
Anyways congrats on the awesome purchase. Expecting a review :hap2::ohyeah:

can some1 comment on the sound quality through the 3.5 mm. is it comparable to apple?

Why is every one associating SQ to Apple. Apple is way behind SE in terms of SQ. Thanks to sony's expertise in the field, SE phones have the best fidelity.

Don't flame me. ;)

The I5700 doesn't sync anything from the computer. It can only be used to access the SD card. All sync related to Contacts, Calendar and Mail is via google.

Also, there is no need to install the PC Studio for the SD card access. Just conect your Spica to the computer and on the Spica's screen you will see the notification on USB connected. If you click on the notification, it will give you the option to mount the SD Card.
