Hi all,

My desktop is connected to the internet through Huawei's WA1003A wireless router and so is the laptop(wirelessly), I was wondering if i can transfer files between the two computers without having to buy additional HUBs and switches, If yes please help me out as to how to configure them, The desktop runs on XP and the laptop runs on Vista.

Thanks :)

I think that you'll have to enable Bridge mode in your modem's settings. I am not sure, but even I want to know that so that i can SSH into my iPod and transfer files wirelessly.

Or is SSH a totally different thing? :P

Make sure both the machines are in same work group and then share the drives or folder u wanna acess( give full permission's).

sorry for OT, but what transfer speed should be expected if both comps are connected with router using wire...???

I used team viewer and speed is pathetic (1.5MBps max)

yes ... u can transfer files wirelessly

let say ur router has address 192.168.1.1 ... ur laptop 192.168.1.5 and ur pc connected to LAN port of router has address 192.168.1.10

in this case ur data will go from laptop -> router -> PC .... hence bandwidth limited due to laptop <->router link

on wireless G network ... 1.5MBps is max ... on Wireless-N network 5~6MBps is max

I did not change anything in my router settings, Windows network did it all :)

Thanks everyone, I was successful right after posting this query :D
Anyway i'm getting pathetic speeds, They range from 650Kb/s to 700Kb/s :@

I opened this Networking section, with the same set of Questions. Looks like most of them are answered...

Say, If i get a Wireless G Network router, and can i access videos/install applications stored in PC, from my laptop without any stutters (considering the 54 mbps fact) ???

Btw, Any recommendations on Wireless N Routers ?

standard definition rip, even 720p should play just fine. saying this on practical experience... I watched "the story of india" which i had stored on my pc in 720p via wireless on my lappy. But i am guessing full hd is going to be a problem due to the high data rate.

U can access videos easily (I have played 720p on my 54mbps wifi n/w but not tried 1080p yet) .... but however for large installations like games, OS etc it takes time on 54mbps n/w (not used to so low speed :P)

I am also looking for Wireless N routers ... but with ADSL2+ support i.e. Gateways

U can look for Linksys WRT320N .... let others suggest too :ohyeah:
