Sharing internet received by USB over WiFi. Help.

Hello TechEnclave,

I'm trying to share the internet connection I receive on my computer over a wireless network.

I get a wireless internet connection via a USB WiFi dongle on a computer running Windows XP SP3. This computer is connected to a D-LINK DIR-300 Wireless Router through the LAN Ethernet cable. There's a network that the router is broadcasting being picked up by other computers in proximity, and I can -for example- use file sharing over that network.

Now, I would like to get the internet connection form the dongle to be shared over the network by the router, and I can't seem to be able to do that!

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Taher.

On the second thought ... you might need it spelled out...

in that case...

you must be using reliance broadband+ or tata photon+

give your computer Lan card (wifi or ethernet 802.3) at ip address 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 leave gateway blank...

connect to Dlink wifi 300DIR -> enable wep 2, give a network cipher tel phone number make good easy to remember network ciphers... easier to break bu easier to remember too ... enable DHCP... or disable whatever your prefrence and set wifi router to act as access point.. save and reboot router....

come back to computer network connections

start-->control panel ---> network connections ---> if modem is plugged in there will be a dialup connection by name of you ISP present ... right click and enable internet connection sharing...

(note ICS/Firewall service needs to be running if not go to

start -->run---> services.msc --> scroll down and set ICS/Firewall service to start automatically ---> (in case of any issues here post for same)

now your computers lan card Ip will change to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 if it conflicts to your dir 300 change it back to 192.168.0.1 /255.255.255.0

leave gateway blank...

now depending on whether you disabled DHCP on router you are ready to share you network connection... dial your connection and start using it on client machines...

if you have disabled DHCP you need to manually enter IP on your clients (802.3/802.11 interfaces) ip 192.168.0.X/255.255.255.0/192.168.0.1(gateway last entry is ip of your PC from which you are sharing internet....192.168.0.1 in case you did not change back to 192.168.0.2 else otherwise)

if you encounter any problem post here ... if you need hardening of wifi network then too...

peace

in ur network connections there will be two adapters .. one ur wifi dongle and another NIC adapter to which ur router is connected.

just select both of them and create a bridged connection between them
