Hi,

Yet another weird thread from me... :ashamed:

I need someone who can precision cut sheet metal for me... About 2-3mm thick steel plate in a specific shape to be precise.

The shape required is this in precisely that size:

batmanlogoeditnra75.jpg

I have people who can cut out this shape for me in Acrylic sheets but I need it to be metal (steel) so that I can get it chrome plated... I plan to use it as a wall hanging for my bedroom. :blushing:

Anyone here know any metal fabricator who can do this work for me?? Would prefer someone from Mumbai but don't mind a person from outside Mumbai if he is a great craftsman.

TIA.

You should be able to get that done at any lathe; that shape is not difficult to make at all, especially at that thickness.

If you want cutting edge precision any machining center with a CNC Wire cutting machine would do , this will probably cost like 300-400 rupees but will get the job done perfect. Also you'd have to provide the exact drawings with dimensions (CAD). BTW - How big is your bat symbol ? That will probably decide the costs , since more size = more time machining the component.

Lathe ? :S what are you going to put in at the spindle ?

lolwut?

A lathe is meant for workpieces that has a symmetry about a central axis of rotation - like a cylinder for instance.

I just meant any workshop that has a lathe would also have metal shears, grinders and all stuff for cutting milling etc. I used to think that those kind of workshops are called also called lathes but obviously I'm wrong :D

That's a small keychain... Plus it is out of stock. Nice find though. Will try to get that one as well. :P

The Size required is 26.50cm X 09.50cm approx and the metal sheet should be 14 gauge...

Unfortunately, the only drawing I have is the one I have posted in Post # 1. No CAD or anything else... :(

I have emailed a few Laser Cutting Workshops in Mumbai. Let's see if they are willing to do it for only one piece. And thanx a lot... :)

I understood ur point in the 1st post itself... But I think this will have to be cut on a Laser Cutting Machine or a Water Jet Cutting Machine. :)

Post some pics of your bat enclave, dude! hehe
Hehehehe!! No Bat enclave yet... Not until I get the logo done... :batman:

if you are planning to put it on your bedroom wall .... do imagine a scenario where there might be a earthquake and this could fall on u and cause damage :P

Just got a Reply from one of the Metal Cutters to whom I has sent a mail:

We can provide the same if you ca provide us the cutting design in Autocad File.
Please let us know the following things in order to quote prices for the same.

Finish required by you Satin No.4 i.e Matt , or Glossy
Quantity required by you.

Thanx,
Ramesh Shah.
Naman Steel.

Now how do I get an Autocad File for the image...??

^^ I'll definitely consider that...

i can help with the autocad file , join up on yahoo / google chat and give me an idea of the sizes

ok already done , tell me size and i will scale it up :D , i want one piece also

Thanx a lot mate... Unfortunately, the first person who responded to my query has quoted 5k for the job!! :O

I have sent all details via email to you... Let's wait for the others to respond with quotes...

Why do you need wirecut EDM?
Is the tolerance that stringent?

Why cant you try the age old technique? Hacksaw and file...

Since its a single piece, I don't think you need EDM. Just try and delvelop your fitting skills...

The hacksaw and file won't give me the desired finish and perfection... I think...

Go?

..........
Hahahaha!!!

At 5k a piece, it is a [NO GO] as of now...!!! If I get really good price quotes (and I mean really Good), I may consider starting a [GO] for this.

:D

Well , The Hacksaw might not get you the precision you are looking for , but yes a good steady hand of the grinding wheel might get you the finish , did you locate any of the CNC Centres nearby ? Industrial Estates , get there ask for where you can find EDMs give them your plans ask for a quote , yes a GO might just bring down the prices since the sheets can be stacked on top of each other on the EDM , makes for like 25-30% more on the machining costs , but yes this is better done if you go scout for places yourself , emails wont works since many of these places wont have internet connectivity (even if they do they check their emails rarely) You most probably will find an anodizing workshop nearby , where they probably do chrome plating , get your CAD go scouting ! ATB. And yes dont got into places which have laser cutting (unless you have like 10-20 orders in your belt) - or you ARE going to get ripped off , IPC wont help then.

Be neha , not nihal :P (will get you discounts)

:cool2:

^^ yeah, grinding should give acceptable finish for something like this. Btw, how are you going to hang it on the wall?

I am gonna superglue this small knob like plastic thing that is found on wall clocks... I dunno what it is called. But I am sure hanging won't be an issue....

@ l33t: Kewl bro... Have you done something like this before?? I'll begin the hunt soon enough...
