My cousin accidently replaced my laptop's(XP SP2) shell32.dll with a shell32.dll file meant for Vista.
Now the computer doesn't boot, I mean it shows errors on the welcome screen.
Also, its not booting from optical media. The boot sequence is set correctly in the BIOS. :| .I have got an external dvd writer with me right now and a dvd of copy of ubuntu 8.10(not live).
What to do?

Currently, I am available on yahoo chat till the next hour.

Well, u can give this a try. Boot from the XP CD, and press [R] then [C] at the Welcome screen to start the Recovery Console and then type:

cd \windows\your_shell.dll_directory
copy SHELL32.DLL c:\windows\system32
If the DLLs aren’t in the Servicepackfiles folder, you have to extract
them from the XP CD directly by typing:

expand D:\i386\shell32.DL_ C:\windows\system32

Try it out.
