Should I buy LCD TV from Bangkok?

I'm just back from my trip from Bangkok. I bought a 40" BX-420 Sony LCD for 14200 baht i.e. 22k INR :)

If anyone wants any help in places to buy, VAT refund, duplicate bill, warranties, customs, anything - let me know.

Place:
Pantip Plaza - Best buy or Power buy don't remember. When you get in, go to right, straight. You shall find them. Don't have contact number. It should be on the bill, let me find that.
There were also a shop called "namaste" and a mall called "indira square". You can ask at Pantip Plaza for directions.

VAT refund
Set aside at least half an hour for VAT refund at Thailand airport. Long queues.

Warranty
These sets have "Asia Warranty". You have to register on a URL given on the box. Haven't done that so can't comment.

Customs
GET YOUR BILL PHOTOCOPIED. The VAT refund counter keeps both your bills(yellow and other one). So you have no proof to show at Indian Customs. And those are some gr***y b******s. So have a copy of bill so that you know amount you spent * 1.56(conversion factor) is less than 25000 INR.

Congrats on the purchase! VFM wasn't it? :P That TV retails for close to twice the price you paid for it, in the Indian markets! A rough estimate of the street pricing i.e.

Did you try the playback of .mkv files? The TV should support them.

A piece of advice - use a stabiliser to avoid voltage fluctuations, subsequent damages to the panel and the warranty fuss that may arise later.

Actually it retails for 49k everywhere I asked. So yeah, good deal ;)

I did tried simple divx files for now. Will try mkv this weekend.

Thanks for the advice. I did notice that the display goes off if there is a fluctuation.

IMO buying from bangkok = getting from Indian grey market (Perhaps a slight difference). I think if you buy it from Bangkok grey market, then its worth getting it as the price may be half the showroom price...
Nooo nooo gray market ppl are clever , in india they just give 4-5k less than MRP in showroom.
incase u wanna have nice holiday go thai, get the tv at huge 50%off tht may be 20k less

No.. I bought cx520 in grey market which is 20k less than the showroom price. May be it is NOW like what you said...
