My dad is enamoured by it. I am too :D

Anyway, my dad was telling me that the latest versions of the iPhone are not unlockable.

Is this true ?

and are the cracks 100% safe ? Is it possible to flash it back to original firmware ?

Anything I should look out in particular while buying it ? Versions number ? Firmware number ? etc...

The main thing is speed.... my dad isnt a very high tech user. His 6681 has become very slow and it frustrates him no end.

PS: I'll be buying from Dubai ? what is the price range I should be looking at ? I'll be leaving day after tomorrow, so, please reply soon.

My dad is on airtel. He can insert the Airtel sim card into the iphone right ? I heard that the sim card is locked into the iphone and stuff...

well yeah, its difficult to unlock the latest iphones in the market..
i think only the ones with 1.1.1 firmware are unlockable..
but who knows? someone at this instant might have somehow unlocked the latest iphone..a risk indeed!
but if ur getting it from the us,you can get it unlocked there and use an airtel simcard here in india..but it will still have dataroaming(surfin, youtube will end up in hefty bills) and the airtel simcard will only support basic features like calls and sms..
As of now the iphone 4gb retails for about 20k and the 8gb one for 22k..

Due i would say wait till march.By then we may know the launch details of iPhone in India.

I read in another forum that iPhone may be launched in India by Vodafone!(not even 1% sure.I just read it so saying it here!)

All new iPhones with OTB (outof box) firmware 1.1.2 are currently not inlockable by s/w hacks

The iphone dev team has been working on a hack for this for months now but there is no solid answer to when (if at all) it will be cracked

There is no accurate way of knowing the OTB fw version from the week but it is generally safe to buy a phone with a production week less than week 45

(the production week can be determined by the 4th and 5th digit of the serial, e.g. my phones has a serial of 7V744XXXXXXX which denotes a week 44 phone)

It is kinda unlikely that you will be able to get the old firmware now unless some dealer has old stocks remaining

The main thing is speed.... my dad isnt a very high tech user. His 6681 has become very slow and it frustrates him no end.

That IMHO is exactly what makes me love the iPhone ....

no slowdowns whatsoever, ever

^^Yep, so as long as your serial number's 4th and 5th digits are lower than 45, you're safe. For instance, my serial is: 7V7410RQWH8 > implying week 41. Mine was an OTB 1.1.1 iPhone.

Yet, if you're hellbent on getting one working at any cost, then pick up a stealthsim or turbosim and you'll be able to use the latest OTB 1.1.2 models.

A Small doubt here.. what's the iPhone's proccy speed? Does it have any RAM or something?

:ashamed:

the specs havent been offically released, and the proccy is custom built one frm Samsung

However, some reports say it has a 600mhz proccy with 256mb of ram which makes the h/w specs at least 2X better than most other phones

but more importantly, the OS is very well optimized
