should i get an iphone from UK. advice needed

i would be going to UK in end sept for 4-6 weeks. i was thinking of buying the iphone. any help would be greatly appreciated

Needs
1. normal phone needs
2. music and video heavy usage
3. web via gsm (bpl or airtel)
4. need some google and blogging software install (read wordpress)
5. dont want it to get bricked later...he he

so the question is, what would be the price of the iphone in UK (how to get it cehcply looking for 16gb but 8 gb will also do)... buy it from shop / carrier service whatever.. wanted the 3g version

can it be unlocked to use with any sim in india...

finally where can i unlock it and at what price...

what... didnt knew pricing that high in UK... Us is cheaper i guess...

apart from 3g, any more changes worth looking... now thinking of a iphone 2g...

damn, why cant the wm phones present a good music & video screen... and stop been a memory hog... damn you apple.. damn... thought it would be a good solution....
 
The US isnt exactly cheaper for this

Not only is it not easy to get an iPhone w/o a contract, you end up paying a hefty sum by then end of the whole deal anyway

Best way to get an ideal of the indicative prices is to hit eBay for the country you are looking at

the 8GB iPhone contract free hovers arnd the $700 mark in the US
