hey guys

i need some suggestions for hd 5670 should I go for it now or wait about a month for fermi to bring down some respite in prices.

Specs

AMD Athlon X2 3800+

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H

1 GB DDR2 667 KINGSTON

thanks and regards

Re: Hd 5670

wait for fermi, meanwhile do some upgrades to make proper justice to the card like

ram> add atleast 2 more GB

proccy> not top priority, but an Athlon II X2 240 can be far better, as ur mobo is already a good one.

Re: Hd 5670

How will the launch of Fermi have any effect of the prices of the 5670 ?

Just go for it, along with 1GB of RAM.

Re: Hd 5670

after three some months i feel one can afford to buy a 5750. i just think one should give 5670 a skip. the output is lower than HD4770 though better in some cases better 9800gt or GT240 (GDDR5) i still think the value is not worth the premium.

Re: Hd 5670

how about this??
will it work good with what i've?

i've
abit ip-35e
intel e6500
4gb ddr2
cm 350w SMPS

m planning to upgrade to it very soon.

Re: Hd 5670

Guyz, you follow one piece of advice from me which is my experience as well as lot of friends have experienced.

You need to upgrade your Desktops to completely optimize your Graphic Processing.

The Better Rig you have the better performance and quality you can have from your GC.

I found lot of difference in Q9450 and E8400 both oced to 3.6ghz along with Corsair Dominator.

Also keep in mind that 5830 will be releasing soon which will be cheaper and better than 4890 along with all the features of ATI 5 Series.

Regards

First of all, its completely wrong. You dont need a quad unless u have really high end GPU. Also you wont probably notice difference b/w E8400 and Q9450 in gaming unless ur gfx subsystem is too powerful like an HD 5870 or 5970[or your 4870 CFX] which wont be the case with the OP. There has been lots of debates on it, here in TE and a detailed comparison from alienbabeltech solved every confusion.

that depends on resolution and quality.
If u play on 1280*1024 on an HD 5870, then yes, there shud be hell of a difference.
If you play at 1920*1200 everythin maxed out...like 8X AA and 16X AF, then proccy hardly makes a difference of 1~2 fps.

check: May Power Be with You: Find the Best CPU for a Single ATI Radeon HD 5870 and ATI Radeon HD 5870 CrossFireX Configuration (page 4) - X-bit labs

but the proccy has become bottleneck with 5870 CF, even core i7 @ 4.1 Ghz.

Buy it. No one, not even God know, what the Fermi is going to be, and when it is going to come out. If you want to wait it out...your choice, its like waiting for the rain to come or stop...!

You have Xfire. Ok. How much was the difference between the Quad the dual you had. Were you playing at HD..? I doubt the HD5830 will dethrone the HD4890 -- why would ATI cannibalize the 48xx series flagship...?

It cannot be factored down to a yes/no. There are too many factors involved...which game, resolution, the other system components, OC (yes/no). The quad will face the NB bottle neck, where as the i7 will be quicker in transiting data between the lanes. I would vote that the i7 would be a shade quicker. But not many games today are that demanding. The hardware has shot way past in terms of games needing it. Unless you are tiling 3-4 displays...!

The first Fermi's are coming out in late march for testing and reviews...it is only till June that yu will actually see the fermi making an impact and then the ati team will be getting ready for the new 6 series cards.. so it will be a war again. go for system upgrade first and then buy a 5 series gfx card.

ya, thats right. Even if you get an HD 5670, you cant even use half of its potential with 1GB ram. And DDR2 prices is still goin up.

Go with the 5670 better not wait for fermi as ur system doesn't suits it certainly, but surely have ur ram upgrade to 2gb and if possible ur procy too.

Fella, I have both 24" i.e. 1920X1080 and 22" 1680X1050.

Tried Crossfire and single both.

Crossfire on dual core 10FPS higher than Single card on Quad.

However for descent gaming all you need is 30FPS-35FPS.

Which was also achieved on Dual Core PC with 4870.

But when used on Quad I could do Antialiasing, Very High/Ultra Settings, etc which was completely possible on Dual Core (i.e. E8200/8400), hence Quad Core (i.e. Q9450) was a real achiever here.

Try Benchmarking new games on Quad, they will perform much better don't try on old lame games which are not optimized for Quad Core and will only utilize 2Cores.

Adios!
