Hi Folks
I need suggestion for wireless Internet i.e router.

Right now I'm having BSNL broad band with type1 (lan) modem. Also i want to use wireless internet for my laptop,so planning to buy a router.

Actually i was confused which one to go for
Linksys WRT54G2 or mediahome offered one Asus Wireless Router WL-520gu ,which both costs 2.5k or just normal basic router which costs 1.5k.

My requirements are to use internet for both laptop and desktop.Uses net daily for desktop but will use for laptop only on weekends,so usage is limited but necessary. Also want to connect both for file sharing(transferring of movies and huge files from desktop to laptop.
My house is old, means the walls are thick so the signals should cover two to three rooms.

thanks

Hey,

Not really sure which one you should go for, But the Ausus WL-520 can be used as a NAS/torrent downloader :)

PS: regarding the old house, I have the same problem :( So if you can check with a friends router, that will be ideal to see which gives better range :)

using the wl520gu as a nas server. really like it so far .. can stream 720p vids to my pro without any buffer.. :) will be flashing it soon to get it workin as a torrent downloader aswell.. tomato firmware gave me less hasstles.. using it since 2 days now.. solid router so far.

Me using Linlsys WRT54G2. yes the firmware can be flashed etc, but that doesnt matter to me.

I've two desktops and one mac laptop running through this router. My desktop does all the heavy torrent downloading. It's easy to configure and doesn't cost as much money either!

I have some doubts. what is this NAS/torrent downloader of Ausus WL-520.( i'm a newbie in router and networkingss :))

is ausus wl-520 is not normal router? i have seen mediahome link in dealer section but couldn't get much from the specs.

hey,

NAS or network attached storage(Network-attached storage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) lets ya connect a usb hdd to the router, and thus access and store files on it from any computer within the network :)

And the torrent downloader is a torrent client that runs on the router, saving the torrent files to the USB hdd/pendrive that is attached to the router, so that your computer doesn't need to be on, hence saving power :)

Thanks Spy king.

I got it. but my torrent downloading is very limited. hardly i dl a week in a month.and while downloading thru torrents i download also from rs,mega also at the same time.

so i guess torrent downloader wont work much for me but nas is good and may be useful.

Actually i saw another product i.e N150 Enhanced Wireless Router?

So should i go for linksys wrt54g2 or this or asus one?

wrt54g2 costing now 2.5k now when i enquired in a shop.

in e-bay i saw this n150 for 2k by mahavir electronics, mumbai. is it a good deal?

eBay India: Belkin Wireless G BroadBand Router 54Mbps - 5YR + BILL (item 260527091325 end time 29-Dec-2009 11:14:24 IST)

i never purchased thru ebay so dont knwo whether to go or not since if problem comes how to claim warranty??

frankly i was totally confused to which one to go for?

IMHO asus is good for NAS and works fine as a router.

Quite honestly dude, all routers work fine. It is the moddability that should matter to you.

An Asus provides you the NAS option because of its USB port.

I wish i was in your position, i am stuck with a WRT54G. oh did i mention that it is the crappiest model that doesnt support any open firmware flashing. :(

So, take your pick buddy!
