Should one get a Wii from US?

One of my friends will be flying to US. He wants to get the Nintendo Wii. Now, he has some queries:

1) Wii is not region free, so should he get the Wii from US? Will it play games bought locally?

2) Is the Wii modded? If he gets the Wii from US, will it be modded or will he have to get it modded himself?

3) What's the cost of Wii games (original and modded) in india specially Delhi?

If some of the above questions are not within the rules of this forum, then please ignore those questions :)
 
purchase it from usa. its only for 250$ there. its selling for 23k here modded.

u can buy for 250$ & mod it locally.
games are available for around 125rs or u could dload them.
og games are for around 2k.
 
Stormy, Don't buy from the US..

Nintendo US is on an extreme anti-piracy drive

So much so that they the Wii's in the US come with the 3 pins from the SMD chip (where the modchip conncts to) physically cutoff from the chip....

That was the case with my wii...I did get it modded but there are very few people who have the skills to reattach pins to an extremely tiny chip....the guy who modded mine said he ended up screwing up a couple of drives before he got the skill right...Our local modders haven't practised enough on the wii to do it

That is not the case with the Japanese Wii though which you get in India..

Eventually, mine set me back by :

250 + taxes + xtra contoller + 125 for modding (the amount of skill that went into the mod was amazing...I got it modded in front of me) + several hours finding a good modder

which is like 18K + loads of time

I think modded wii's are avilable forless than 23K anyway
 
Can't one get modded Wii's from US? If not, then i don't think it's useful for my friend to get it from US. Better to get the modded one from Palika.

Am i right?

Modded, yes...non modded won't play originals bought locally..it'll play only NTSC-U original discs

getting the damned thing modded is too much of a hassle in the US...you are better off buying pre modded locally

do GC titles have region lock also on the wii?

and didnt you have one for sale?
 
this shop called ninja in bombay near crawfard market.. went there to get my psp's screen changed... saw the wii selling like hot cakes :P

yes, and the one for sale was a friends' wii...

mine, no way i am letting go of it after all the trouble i took for getting it modded
