What is this new rule that you cant post stuff worth more than 5,000/- in the "everyday show off" thread ??

It doesnt make sense to be honest.
Its an individual choice. If a person wants to create a seperate thread for his show-off, then so be it. If he wants to post it in the everyday-show off thread, then so be it !!
Cmon admins, think about it please.

cheers.

wats wrong in that. Its a good rule as many big purchase gets diminished in everyday show off tread.Such big items surely deserves a new tread.

Agreed makes perfect sense.

^^^hacker,
yea, but its the choice of the person who owns the stuff. If i dont want to create a seperate thread for my show off, then i aint gonna do it ofcourse keeping in mind that it may not receive as many hits as it would by creating a new thread.

The members here should be given that freedom.

cheers.

@Hacker: I understand your point... but let's just say that I bought new CPU... just the CPU for something around 8-10k. I don't want to start a new thread just for the CPU, so I decide to put it under everyday show-off thread. What's wrong with that?

I totally agree with GunnerMania, we should have choice to select where should be post our show-off.

Lets just see it from another perspective. Lets say someone shows off an uber cool/rare/attention gathering gadget in the everyday show off thread. Everyone would be talking about it and none of the other smaller show offs posted around that time will get any attention at all. :P

Ex: Lets say someone thinks a shiny new iPhone 3GS does not deserve its own thread and posts it in the everyday showoff. Can you imagine whats going to happen to any of the other showoff's posted around that time?

Too much regulation might become a deterrent for people and I fear lesser people showing off.

Besides, I guess it becomes a lot of extra work for the mods too.

So to remove the confusion, you either, let things be the way they are or remove the everyday show-off completely, cos everytime a newbie or an uninformed user looks at that thread, he might want to post there, even for something significant.

what about a product that costs Rs.4999 ?

I may get 2 things which cost 4k each.. so where should i be posting? :S

You guys got me confused now. :|

Why cant we have two threads , one the everyday showoff , and one for any purchases for which the owner doesnt wish to create a thread

So how many of you'll purchase a processor or an item worth 5k Rs on an everyday basis?

Please do not create a feedback thread just cause you are lazy to create a separate thread(which requires hitting a single button by the way) in the show-off section or just cause you plain do not understand the sentiment (emotional and financial) behind "Everyday" show-off.

It's a good thing that the staff on TE don't rule with an iron hand like a lot of other indian forums. But honestly the kind of insignificant or rather lame topics that are being made in feedback kinda makes us staff think twice about the amount of freedom that is being misused on TE. And i can understand that most people on TE are in their teens and such and feel the need to be rebellious but this isn't the place to be that. If you indeed feel so kindly try those antics in your private lives. This statement is because for far too long there has always been a opposition masquerading as feedback, some outright lame suggestions et all. This sort of behaviour is only tolerated on TE.

So please show some sensitivity to people who can't always afford shiny stuff and let them have their 15 seconds of fame in the Everyday show-off thread. For the uber rich who think a processor or anything over 5k doesn't warranty a show-off are better off not showing-off at all rather than posting it in the show-off thread. Others who can't figure out where to post should grow a brain rather than spamming on a feedback topic.

^ i completely agree with Blade_Runner here. if you managed to post a new thread in the feedback section, i dont see why you cant post a simple show-off thread as well.

i dont see how being lazy affects posting a new thread. it is almost the same thing.

for posting in everydays showoff thread you have to click on showoff section then click on everyday showoff thread and then post.

for posting a new thread you have to click on showoff section then on new thread and then post.

the post content remains same, so actually based on number of clicks, its the same. :P

seriously. if a dude thinks a trivial item is worth a showoff, then It is to him. We had this issue come up before when someone posted a new fan in the showoff thread. If you think something is not worth showing off, keep it to yourself. No need to say that it is not worth showing off or anything to that effect. By someone else's standards, even the uber piece of hardware which you might consider show off worthy might be lame.

I dont understand the point of the OP. I haven't been to show off in a long while. Has such a rule been introduced ?

EDIT: just went through the thread. I support the OP. It is a lame rule :| Its less enforceable than , say a rule on posting thumbs instead of huge pix ( which was not put into place because it was not enforceable). The point of the everyday showoff thread was to post things in there which we felt was not worth creating a seperate thread for As has been mentioned , its just the difference of a button or so. Its not our laziness, just a personal choice.

I find creating a thread equivalent to going up to the roof and shouting to everyone "hey guys, i got an XYZ!!!" . I dont want to show off that much, just slip in a note that I've gotten an xyz and you b1tches can drool over it :P - the thread serves that purpose wonderfully. I dont see it has to be imposed on someone to create a new thread. Why do we have to FORCE people to show off?

In fact, I dont understand TE's obsession with having multiple threads at all. Do we really need to increase our thread count that badly? I'd been asking to merge redundant threads for a long time, and thats still not taken up. I understand that mods have enough work, but why take upon themselves to come up with rules against things which we are entirely okay with :S

All heil the new budget Nazis!

After reading blade_runner's reply, i think its impossible to discuss something rationally with these guys. I have clearly mentioned its an individual's personal choice and not about being lazy !!

CLOSE THIS THREAD !!
Why do you want our feedbacks or opinions when u r gonna reply in such a manner??
Close it when u feel its a lame thread. And whats with all the teenagers being rebellious here n all that?? Whats that got to do with the issue here??

um dudes. Haste makes waste. Lets get the POV of other people too. closing it prematurely does not help anyone

Well from blade_runner's reply, the point is clear that he thinks its a pointless feedback. Right now it looks like they aint gonna do a thing to change it and why do you think they want our opinions?
I am surprised he didnt close this thread after posting his reply.

cheers.

If I were you, I wouldnt be as hasty. He has been patient so far :)

Lets just give others a chance to voice their opinions.
