I think Sify is trying new tricks keep their userbase safe:tongue: ...I had renewed my plan some days back(20 days)...I was using it for a few days and then suddenly I noticed that my account has been renewed again....I thought it was a small error on their side will revert back sooner or l8r...but lucky me it did not happen...

I continued using my newly renewed account and again after some days my plan got renewed....All this when I had to pay only for one renewal :bleh:

Am I the only one who got lucky or did ne1 else benfit cos of the system error..Cos one friend of mine also got his plan renewed automatically...

This thing happened to me once... and I had thought the same. I thought I was using free bb... coz I always renew via cc. But then after a few days a rep from my local cto came to me for the money. So I told em the next time they renew my conn without telling me... Im not going to pay them anything... it hasn't been done since.

Renewing after ur account expires is one thing but renewing b4 ur account expires and that too free of charge is great :P

wow, lucky chap...

it's happenend with me too, but only AFTER my acc expires.

and they usually have their person come 2 collect the money in 3 days,

but i never pay them coz i never asked them to renew it...

and yet they keep auto renewing it again n again.

well, serves them right for the crappy connection they've provided... :@

Your Luck man. Have fun.

btw i just wanted to ask are Sify Unlimited offers good. I mean do they give good speeds while Downloading(mostly P2P) n of course online gaming(mostly COD, CSS). I m currently using Iqara (890Rs/month Unlimited 64kbps offer), n i get speeds from 8-20kbps using Kazaa. Will Sify offer more speeds then this.

Well I can assure you one thing....You will get the speed that you paid for....I have been using the 256 Kbps plan for quite some time now and I have always got speeds of around 30 Kbps on torrents....There are times when sites don't open up but thats a rare problem and usually gets fixed by logging off and on again...

PS: I have no idea abt the new plans with low upload speeds. I mean the packs with 256 Kbps DL/64 Kbps uploads....I am waiting for some good opinions abt that plan b4 taking it...

Wht is the monthly rental of a unlimited offer both 64kbps and 256kbps.

btw why cant they offer a speed of 128kbps :@

Go here Sify Broadband - Hi Speed Internet and select your city to have a look at the tariffs. The speeds on sify are throttled most of the time. And their true unlimited packages have 64 k upload speed... so not ideal for torrents... you might get good speeds on well seeded torrents on public trackers but you'll have a tough time seeding. Otherwise you're stuck with 150 mb daytime limit, if you cross that a day gets deducted from the validity period and once the clock strikes 10 speeds start fluctuating like crazy. Also they have a lot of downtimes.

So reliability here is a huge problem... although when it works... they r decent.

I think you'll be better off with bsnl.

i use the night pack mostly, and when connectivity is good, the speeds are pretty good. like 30 constant on torrents. same with uploads.

but the problem i've been facing with sify for the last month & a half, is that their gateway keeps conking off every night. (that's why i said prev that it serves them right)

but when that does not happen, the speeds are excellent. usually do like 1.5g b up+down in a night. so i guess that's nice.

as for gaming, their pings to most of the servers suck (pune). the only deceny ping i get to is fs. which is deserted most of the times :|

i don't know abt other cities.

does anyone with sify face the same prob....??

Pings in Mumbai are quite good even on a 64 Kbps connection...I get pings of around 75 in many servers on a 64 kbps plan....On a 256 Kbps connection it is around 25-60 on most of the asian servers...

Pings arn't dependant on the speed but on the routing. And sify has horrible routing. So unless the servers are relatively close your pings r bound to suffer.

Ya I know 'Pings' don't entirely depend on the speeds but different speeds on different plans show that they affect the ping to some extent...

not really.

when sify had good pings to vs n fs, it din't matter which pack i used

i got the same ping on a 64k & 256k pack. so speed is not the criteria, routing is.

Pings just send your address... so how can such a small amount of data depend on what speed you are using... it is entirely dependent on routing... you probably have a feeling that you are connecting to the servers faster... which is dependant on speed.
