Just completed Silent Hill 3 and it turned out to be much better than expected. Silent Hill 2 had a good focus on story, while this game genuinely stood with it's creepy environment. Thank heavens, for not running into any major bugs and/or glitches, as a lot of the crowd was throwing fit about this port. I just wish they had included The Room and Shattered Memories too. Would have loved to play those titles in HD. Nevertheless, both of these HD titles were very good and must play for every horror fan.

I personally like the badass protagonist in SH3, Heather Mason. She stood strong through all this horror. And her witty dark humored dialogs, icing on the gameplay. Is everyone here a mental case ?

Silent Hill 2 has great story which I am yet to see in any other game.

Here is a good source on SH2:

You bet! She was strong, yet vulnerable. Too bad her voice over was changed for the HD collection. I heard her original voice and it sounded very different. The Amusement park and the Brookhaven hospital level have got to be the most creepiest levels in the game. :fear_2:

Gannu: How long is that game anyway?

Yeah she was vulnerable but she never broke down in spirits unlike James. Ending cracks me up when she says "I guess it's time to roll out the credits". I don't remember the level details now but there was this pink light in haunted house or so. And a scary corpse falling down.

Claudia was enigmatic too, not your typical antagonist. She was doing what she thought was right and bring peace to the world. Though she was kind of deluded in that but her intentions weren't bad.

I'll have to play it again. Will watch some youtube video about the voice change.

James's purpose was different compared to Heather's. Heather fails to understand almost everything that's been going on right from the beginning. James is lead onto Silent Hill wondering with a hope of his "dead" wife being alive. Both have a very distinct character, but only James has a purpose. Heather, for most part, tries to piece together a lot of puzzles before finally realizing who she truly is and her gruesome past. It's amazing how they aptly drop those notes and journals along the way, which really help you understand the depth of the story.

About the Haunted house, that part gave me the jitters. It was well scripted. Also, remember the store room on the 3rd floor of the nightmare Brookhaven hospital level? (skip to 2:23)

This was pretty messed up.

Claudia had very deep voice, which I liked. She was passionate, I'd give you that, but overtly blinded by her purpose. If you ask me, she went too far with the whole "birth of God" aspect. She killed way too many innocent people in the process.

The only thing I unlocked was 'Heather Shirt' by completing the game on Normal difficulty. :P

Gannu: How long is that game anyway?

7 to 8 hours maybe. Don't remember exactly but not much anyway. Depends on how quickly you can wind up those puzzles and small contraptions.

The DLC Justine (haven't played that one yet) is about an hour and a half tops.

I would have literally shat myself seeing the nightmare version.

Also, noticed that original Heather voice was much better suited and nicely done.

Yeah, the whole mirror thing and escaping from there. Also the phone calls wishing happy birthday were creepy. Lots of subtle details for a game.

She was of the belief that if it takes wiping out entire humanity then be it for a better tomorrow free of suffering.

Wait a minute here....Faun is that you?

I'm pretty sure not many people out here have a deep interest in Silent Hill series. The only one I know from Digit forum would be you.

*looks at signature*

Hah! It IS you. Well, glad you made it here. I was about to post on Digit too, but guess it's not the same anymore. :P

Played all of them on My Good Old Ps2!
Still remember the Nights when I used to play, SH2 was the best of the lot! Will give a try to this HD series now on the Ps3 \m/

Yeah, it's me :)

Since silent hill 2 is getting so much heat I have decided not to go for this collection. Has anybody played it on pc with 360 controllers?

I am trying my best to like this game but the lack of much information is just killing the fun. Its not acceptable anymore to move in circles in the same area without having a clue. Moreover the camera angles sometimes are just irritating.

Now lets come to the business. After doing a bit of research I think it may be true that the HD collection is in fact inferior to the original games. The silent hill 2 HD suffers from many glitches like missing textures & audio, audio loop etc. Which is kinda not acceptable for a horror game especially the missing sounds.

Inarguably the ps2 version is the best amongst all the others. If you have a ps2 & you have not played this game yet then don't look for other options.
Anyways if you really want to enjoy it in real HD you can grab the pc version which almost comes closest to the ps2 version.

However there are certain things you should follow. The following information is for those who have not played this game yet & wants to play someday.

1. Go through this thread http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488899 . Here it will provide a mod which claims to fix some issues & lets you play it in full hd.
2. Make sure your ingame resolution is set to 640 x 480 before you apply this mod. Go for the "Modern Compatibility Fix" since it is easy to install.
3. Then download & apply the " FMV Widescreen Enhancement Pack v1.0" as instructed in the same post. This is a bit large file to improve the cutscenes. Those who have experience in modding resident evil 4 may find it a bit familiar.
4. You can play with the AA settings but it may create few problems. I think without that too it looks good.
5. For using a 360 controller you can use "xpadder". Xpadder profile is provided there. You can also go for http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/pc-...d-joystick/xbox-360-ps3-psx-etc/silent-hill-2 which is quite easier.

Honestly, I had absolutely no issues with playing both Silent Hill 2 and 3 (HD Collection) on the X360. Both ran perfectly for me. I enjoyed Silent Hill 3 more than 2. The second game was great in terms of atmosphere, soundtrack and story. However, Silent Hill 3 excelled in delivering a more creepier horror experience. The locations were especially more scary compared to the second game.

I think you might have overlooked those glitches which is actually good.:) See this video

I already had read those differences therefore couldn't proceed with the HD collection. Btw trust me pc version looks better & the controller is easy to configure.

Anyways I am almost towards the end of silent hill 2. It had me glued from the start. I will give my final opinion after I have finished this game.:) I always wanted to play it because of its kick ass trailer & story. Not to forget the awesome music by Akira Yamaoka.

Trust me, I saw all those videos before playing it and I was contemplating on making it work on the PC as well. But I went ahead on the 360 anyway and it was a fine experience. I hear the PS3 users faced a lot of issues with it, specially with the wobbly frame rate. Regarding the fog density, It wasn't really that huge or a deal breaker to be honest. When you see those videos comparing the original and the new one, it immediately feeds into your mind. Else, I can guarantee you, a new user would barely notice those issues, barring technical performances.

It's a great game, so you'll love it. Also make sure you play 3 and Downpour, if possible. At least, that's what I did. Have you played Homecoming?

^^Played but never completed it due to bad porting & lack of fixes available then(or I might be unaware of them).
This is the first time I am going to complete a silent hill game.:) I hated the camera system & the controls used in silent hill 2 & 3 therefore always backed out whenever I thought of the control system. I still don't like the camera in this game its irritating sometimes especially when you want to fix it on the enemy & it pans somewhere else.

Finally completed. However I got the water ending which is very depressing.
Well the story is a bit complex and the game overall is good too. However there are certain things which makes no sense at all (or maybe I didn't get it)
Like for eg: Why T F would someone preserve a hair using 4 damned locks? & what you do with it? retrieve a ..... from ... & Bulbs canned ? er.. okay. Then fix it in the bar and exit ? why?
Moreover I repeat again the camera angle is very bad in this game. Anyways if we overlook these then yes its game which stands out like RE4. Then again I think if we look closely it seems RE 4 got a bit of its inspiration form this game.[DOUBLEPOST=1412003252][/DOUBLEPOST]Born from a wish completed.
