Hey Guys ..

My frnd connected his Nokia 5800XM to a random comp to xfer some pics.

This was 4 days back.

Now the phone doesnt unlocks the keypad after autolock kicks in. Also it shuts off randomly at times.

The fone didnt had any antivirus installed.

He Tried connecting the phone to a comp after removing the mem card to back up phone numbers, but the phone instantly switched off after selecting the mass storage option.

He removed the sim and inserted it in another phone and now this phone is shutting down randomly.

SIM card been infected ..?

What is the procedure to rectify the problem and clean the SIM/Phone or both of any malicious stuff.

Do suggest easily available s/w, that wd be great.

Thanks in advance. Waiting eagerly for replies..

afaik sim cards are not prone to virus infection.
The probs that ur frnd is facing cud be due to a corrupt sim card.
If the prob persists after trying the simcard in multiple phones then get the sim replaced.

I hope u have taken backup of phone memory of ur 5800. If yes, do had reset of phone by pressing and holding green key + red key + camera key in phone switched off condition. by keeping these keys pressed switch on phone and held powering on button also pressed. Wait for phone to start completely asking u country and other settings. It will fix the problem.

I was facing similar problem though dont know whether it was related with sim problem or not.

Take the memory card and scan on a pc with kaspersky and norton..
Remove those viruses.. Best would be to format the card..

Hard reset the phone, and install the phone antivirus..There are many antivirus for the mobile, you can try one of them..

The update is:

The card had been formatted already.

The backup of the phone entries hadnt been taken and now the phone is not getting connected to a pc.

Scanning is again not possible after many tries. Scan whenever initiated gets over within a second or two sans the mem card that is.

The sim card when inserted in a diff phone made the other phone stutter as well.. it rebooted twice.

Now the sim is in a samsung phone and is working fine.

Absolutely clueless after these random permutations as to where the problem lies.

That the phone is not with me is not helping one bit either.

Any specific way to determine the presence of virus in the simcard guys ..??

AFAIK SIM Cards are not prone to Viruses

As per your details above, the SIM Card seems to be corrupt, replace the SIM Card with a NEW one

Also Hard Reset 5800XM Phone and try to get/install Kaspersky Mobile Security at low prices - KMS is awesome for Symbian OS and Updates are also very small :)

It is not at all related to any virus, there is no virus for symbian 5.Sim card cannot be affected by virus either. Why are you even trying to scan the phone with an a.v.Format the card with FAT32 system, hard format the phone, try the sim.If it does not work there is some problem with the sim card, get it replaced.BTW did you have any antitheft software installed in your phone?
