Since the iPhone battery is sealed in and can’t be easily replaced by the user, what happens when it dies? Will you have to buy a new iPhone?

If its out of warranty, you can get the battery replaced from the grey market. Its very cheap compared to Apple service.
how did u know it was battery problem, was the iphone heating a bit, let me know please, was it 1G, 2G, 3G or 3Gs ???

ok coming to the qn, my iphone was keeping charge for only six hours a day
to my utter surprise when i opened the back cover the battery had swollen like anything and it had actually pushed the back panel!!
i just ordered for a battery for 1000 thru a frend in chennai(original with 6 months warranty)
and it worked fine, but then my frend bought it from me

LOL please stop spreading all that crap and FUD! There's no such thing as an iPhone 1G with an SD card support! People maybe referiing to the first iPhone as the 1G or 2G or simply the iPhone itself.
